A great resource for parents and students
I Used to Know That by Caroline Taggart is an excellent reference and resource for parents. For most of us, by the time our kids have started school a lot of the things we learned have long since been forgotten. This book fills in those gaps. From language arts to math and social studies, this reference covers all of the basic information that the kids are learning or going to learn. It is an excellent primer for parents when their children are starting a new subject or a great refresher for parents to be able to talk intelligently about the subjects their kids are learning. I think the best part is that when it's homework time, I have a great place to turn for more information so that I can immediately help my child. The book covers English, literature, math, science, history, geography and general studies; everything an elementary student is going to encounter. The breadth and depth of information also would make this a great reference for tutors and others helping children with their school work. One great part of me is the math section because I learned many math skills outside the US. When it's time for my son to work on math topics, I have a great reference that talks about the way math is taught in US schools. So, I will not be confusing him with a different method of working through problems.Overall, I love this reference book and recommend it to all parents and caregivers of school-age kids. It is well written and easy to use.

Fun Collection Of Facts - Recommended
This collection of High School facts was fun to read through to see what I have actually forgotten in the many years since I went to school and, in more cases than I like to admit, might not have learned at all. The sections include literature, history (North American and Europe centric), science, and art. The writing style is fairly conversational and it seems to be mostly accurate, but does tend to gloss over a lot of details that some may consider very important (such as mentioning Paul Revere but omitting William Dawes).I enjoyed this quick refresher and will likely occasionally pick it back up to keep things "fresh" in my mind.Recommended!CFH

Good for reference book only
I have only been able to skim it so far but it is not a readable book. It is much more like a reference where you could look up names of American Presidents or Canadian Prime Ministers or famous writers, etc. And some of the information is so basic (what a noun, verb and adjective is for example) that it is an insult to my intelligence to suggest that I would not remember that even though I am 67 and out of school MANY years. I will know what a noun, verb and adjective is until the day I die. There are no tests or quizzes nor does the presentation in any other way engage your attention. This is information I could just as easily find online. Glad I bought a used copy and not full price.

NOT ONLY STUFF I FORGOT, BUT THINGS I NEVER EVEN KNEW!!!
This book is both fun, and chocked full of. great stuff! It gives a pretty complete overview of english, literature, math, science, history, geography, and general studies. I read some reviews that suggested that the author should have given more info, especially, in math and literature. That is not what this book is about, hence the word OVERVIEW. It is free, fun, and goes over a lot of facts. If you want more, buy a math book.

Great Review for Baby Boomers, Good Preview for Younger Students
I loved Caroline Taggart's "I Used to Know That: Stuff You Forgot from School"! This book gives a quick refresher of a variety of topics that everyone should know. I have to admit that it also made me feel good because I remembered a lot of it! After I read it, I gave it to my granddaughter. She's only 7, but I feel it will help her someday. One other group of people who would enjoy (or should read) this book is high school juniors. Need a refresher for the ACT or SAT? This will show what you don't know and need to get a little extra help.I wish this book could be updated every five years or so!

Old knowledge may be forgotten but always remains topical and highly relevant. An invaluable help and reference.

I love the British absurdities

Mediocre
