I'm surprised these are so rare
I would have expected to find a plethora of thermostats that work with a 2-speed swamp cooler, but this was pretty much the only one I came across. It replaced an old Dial unit from the 70s or 80s and it has 5 wires rather than the 4 in the old unit. Luckily, the instructions explain exactly that, and by following them exactly, everything worked on the first try. One warning... if the old unit has a double size electrical outlet box, you will need to order the double sized mounting plate ( the part number was in the instructions, but not shown at the time of purchase). Otherwise, you might find a mounting plate with an opening on only one side at a home improvement store , or do like I did and customize your own from a blank mounting plate. You may need to cut through hard plastic that cracks easily, so be prepared!

Dial 7617 Cooler Thermostat
The Dial Thermostat has simple instructions as to what color of wires do what.First you need to confirm how many actual wires and colors you need.a. The three important wires are: Green or Ground, White (neutral) or Common, Black Line in.b. The Green and White both need to be added to the remaining color coded wires to complete the installation.c. Determine if you have a two speed blower or not.d. The remaining wires will all fit in a ½ conduit along with the white and Green wires.Second you need to determine if the Thermostat and wires will all fit in the wall box.a. If the thermostat and wires will not you will need to buy a box extender (which will make your job easier) Unless you are just replacing an old thermostat. When you have all of this figured out the rest is easy. The thermostat works great.I have an old one that has been working great for over ten years.

Temperature not accurate
It came in when expected. The manual is very straight forward and the installation couldn't be easier, just have to follow the colors. However, the thermostat is far from being accurate. It stays right under my furnace thermostat is (no big variations on temperatures, works great, so I use that as my guidance). This thermostat can variate 4-5 degrees up or down accordingly to who knows! What I notice is that the more it runs, the higher temperature it reads, probably because the whole system itself gets warmer. I already recalibrated this thing several times according to the manual, just to come home to a reading of 79 degrees when it's actually 75. Last night had to wake up to a reading of 75 when was actually 71 and I was freezing. Might save you some trouble and shop for different thermostats out there.

No longer works after power outage
We had the thermostat for roughly a month. On the first power outage, it failed. I looked at the instructions to find out how to get it working again. There is a section specifically about power outages that says, "If your cooler controller does not respond properly after an outage, then either an internal component has failed (which is not covered by product warranty), or the unit needs to be reset. We tried resetting it and it did not help. The disclaimer "which is not covered by product warranty" and the fact that they have a special section in the owner's manual specifically about power outages leads me to believe that the company is aware of the issue and has chosen to do nothing about it. I have replaced it with our previous manual control and it is working perfectly fine. We have frequent power outages where we live so I will not gamble by buying another one.

Excellent cooler thermostat
Replaced our old original control with this new one and were very happy with the result. Did not know how much better the system would work until we installed this new cooler thermostat.

Dial was very responsive and provided a replacement at no cost with no hassle. The new unit works perfect, glad I chose the Dial product

A Great thermostat for evaporative coolers!
I have used this thermostat to control my evaporative coolers for more than 23 years. They work very well. My experience is that they fail to work after about 12 to15 years, and must be replaced. I think this is a very small price to pay to have temperature control over my evaporative coolers! I will buy another again in 12-15 years.
