I was looking to replace five sprinklers at the bottom of my slightly sloped lawn because they leaked all of their contents in the pipes onto the sidewalk whenever the sprinklers stopped. So I went to the local big hardware store and bought five brand-new sprinklers and spent the better half of one day replacing them all. It took a whole day because I really didn't know wha I was doing but I fought through it and was thrilled when I was done. That feeling ended quickly when all the sprinklers I had installed did the exact same thing as the sprinklers I just replaced!! I did some more research and found that you need sprinklers with "check valves" if you have sprinklers at the bottom of a hill. These Rain-Birds come with built-in check valves called "Seal-A-Matic" (SAM) check valves. They also have a "Pressure Regulating Stem" (PRS). That is what makes them 1804 SAM-PRS sprinklers.I have them in and they work wonderfully!! I am extremely happy with my purchase. If you have a sloped lawn and have the same problem I did, then these are what you are looking for. Buy them. You won't regret it.

Works Like a Charm
The Seal-a-Matic feature of this sprinkler did exactly what I needed. I tried several things to try and gettwo of my sprinklers to stop leaking water from the top of the sprinkler head. After hours of searching the internet for solutions, I finally came across a description of a sprinkler with a water flow regulator. Then searched for this idea in my Rain Bird sprinklers and found the SAM feature. It worked so I purchased two more just to have on hand for future issues. I highly recommend if you're having problems with leaks in your sprinkler at declines in your yard.

Perfect for sloped zones
If you have a sprinkler zone on a slope and deal with drainage out of sprinkler heads after watering, these are a lifesaver. No more leaks after watering, the check valve closes up tight.

Check valve didn't work for me as the slope/run was too long
Don't expect the check valve to work at the bottom of a long row of sprinkler pop-ups. You'd probably need to have a number of them along the way to make it work. My old head was leaking and was set too low in the ground, making for very little spray coverage. I added a sprinkler riser extension and this new head which provides the coverage needed, but when the zone is turned off, it isn't able to hold back the flow of water coming from several heads on the same zone that are on a gradual incline above this head.

Great Rain Bird Quality and Functionality
Needed to replace a 30+ year old 1800 series sprinkler body with a pressure regulating version and had a check valve to prevent sprinkler line from draining at the low point of the zone. Does exactly what it says it will do.

Expensive but worth it
I had a sprinkler head that was leaking all of the time and I tried different things to fix it for a year. I replaced the head, then I switched the sprinkler valve diaphram. Still leaked. Finally I bought this head since it has a built in check valve. Fixed the problem. Wish I had bought this first. Would have saved me a bit of money and time.
