It might be what some wanted. It's not what I was hoping for.
I will admit that I have only read about 1/4 of this book, but I find it difficult to go back to it and read the rest.As a gentile I was hoping for a clear, simple introduction to Jewish Mysticism. Having read 1/4 of the book I am no closer to understanding anything about the subject, and I suspect the rest of the book will be just more of the same - what shall I call it - rambling, often disjointed tid-bits of writing intended to show off how sublimely enlightened the author is, perhaps? Now, I have seen this author in a discussion on a UTube video before I ordered this book, and I believe he is sincere to the subject. It's just that he does not come across that way in the book. Here's an example of one of those writing tid-bits. On page 32,"The first mystery is simply that there is a mystery. A mystery that can never be explained or understood. Only encountered from time to time."OK, first of all, that's not specifically a Jewish mystery. It's our universal human mystery. But that aside, this is the nature of this book, at least so far:little bits of truths about the unknowable mixed in with little bits of Jewish Biblical history, mixed in with quotes from others. We, the readers, have to do the work, I suppose, of figuring out what he's getting at. That's fine if I was on a druggy high thinking, "wow, wow, what a mind-blowing thought", but that's not why I buy a book advertised as "Quite Simply, The Easiest Introduction To Jewish Mysticism You Can Read."

A Great and Approachable Work
A profound book, by a profound author. Kushner expertly weaves the concepts of the universal mystic journey into the fabric of Judiasm, providing the reader with insights - ancient and modern - into Jewish mysticism. His easy to read style belies the fact that you will never truly understand the contents - like any mystical writing - it has so many meanings and layers that it transcends full understanding. Whether it is a story of the bird on a front porch, or the comparison of Moses and Elijah or the composition of the Lurianic Tree of Life, Kushner will provoke deep thought in a light style. A great read.

Beautifully written and inspiring
Beautifully written and inspiring. Touched me deeply, and gave me a deeper understanding of Jewish Mysticism. Soulful and uplifting. Unlike many books on the Kabbalah, it came from the heart, rather than being overly intellectual.

Kabbalah
Because I wanted specific information on mysticism of the Jewish religion: the Kabbalah- history, not rabbis' stories - and how it works and how to work it.
