Famous MiG-29 line now continues with MiG-35 with outstanding volume on these aircraft
The Yefim Gordon and Dmitriy Komissarov series of famous Russian (and former-USSR) aircraft designs, focused on the MiG-29 (Fulcrum) and new MiG-35 (regarded as initially an export version of the MiG-29M/M-2). It has since been selected for Russian air force service, which maybe fitted with the Bar-29 phased-array radar (based on the earlier N-011M fitted on some Sukhoi Su-30 variants), a system capable of tracking 10 aerial targets simultaneously and determining the class while in track-while-scan mode. The MiG-35 has been at demonstration shows since 2017 and in December last year (Blue 702 and 712) have been under intensive test & development. Both single-seat MiG-35 and two-seat MiG-35D are on order for Russia. This is a huge volume - 688 pages - packed with technical data, photographs, 3-view drawings, operational details of both USSR/Russian and foreign air forces use of the MiG-29. [It is comparable in size and detail of the recently released update on the Flanker-series - Su-27 thru Su-35.) Intelligence officers during the Cold War would have given eye-teeth for details such as offered in the book! There are eleven chapters and three Appendices, plus an Index, plus the Introduction that sets the state of both Western and Russian fighter developments in the Vietnam Era of the Sixties and early-Seventies. Chapters include:* * Taking Shape - a background chapter on how the Light Weight Fighter (LFI) evolved, from earliest designs of the MiG-29A to the final selection of design;* * Learning to Fly; getting the prototypes into operationally acceptable condition, including the first four prototypes built at the MiG OKB's experimental plant (MMZ No. 155) at the now closed Frunze airfield;* * Into Production: First Production; a chapter focused on Izdeliya 9.12 and Izdeliya 5 approved first production design, including design changes found necessary during flight, weapons and other tests;* * Fulcrum Anatomy; a detailed look at "everything" Fulcrum (wings, wheels, radar, fuselage, hydraulics, fire suppression, etc. etc., including fine internal drawing views (p. 144-145);* * A Step forward New Geneation; the new MiG-29M (modernizeerovannyy - upgraded) and later versions, developed aa a result of operational experience, with an extensively reworked airframe and new OLS-M combined IR/TV search-and-track laser range finder unit and a helmet-mounted cueing system for AAM firings. Several variants of the basic MiG-29M are discussed, including the MiG-29ME (MiG-33) export fighter and several multi-role fighter (MRF) developed concepts.* * Pushing for the Navy; the Navy's MiG-29K development through operational use, including coverage of the MiG-29LL and MiG-29KVP (development aircraft extensively tested at Saki (Novofyodorovka) Air Base, to adapt the aircraft for naval aircraft carrier service. Included in this chapter are terrific 3-view drawings of MiG-29K's in various underwing load configurations (p. 254-255).* * MiG-29SMT, New Wine in old flasks; the Russian requirement for great range resulted in the 'gatback' MiG-29S, that was developed into the MiG-29SMT MRF (a development similar to the earlier MiG-21SMK Fishbed-K variant) that resulted in an aircraft with a 40% great fuel load than the earlier Fulcrum-C variant. All the standard weapon options continued to be carried. The design developed in the late-80s was rather similar to growing Western demands for similar range improvements. Also discussed (in all chapters) are the two-seat trainer variants (UBT).* * Generation 4 + + - On Deck Again; getting a better navalized MiG-29K, wincluding revised high-lift devices (LEREX) based on the MiG-29M and revised powerplant (RD-33MK afterburing turbofan).* * Generation 4 + + - the land-based versions; beginning with the MiG-29M OVT development aircraft, and "M2' /'S' and the new MiG-35(both S and D-variants) MRF designs, which include a chart on Weapon Options (p.379) for the new MiG-35 series.* * In Service; focused history of the MiG-29 in USSR/Russian air sevice, including "foreign service" deployments, color side-view drawings (p. 420-421, 438-442, 466-467) of individual representative squadron aircraft, table listing all Russian air squadrons using the aircraft (p. 427), and discussion of issues related to introduction and adaption of the aircraft in Russian squadron service.* * Fulcrums Far and Wide; MiG-29 service in foreign air forces, including a table for each air force listing individual aircraft that served with each air force. This chapter begins on page 495 and concludes on page 661 with Yugoslav/Servian/Montenagran air force service.Appendix 1 (pages 662-663) includes table with Specifications for all MiG-29/-35 variants compared, offering spec's in over a dozen categories. [This table is comparable to all former Yefin Gordon series titles.]Appendix 2 [p.664-676] begins the listing of all production aircraft by serial number, beginning with the first six MMZ-built prototypes. [Again, this is consistent with all prior Yefin Gordon-series books on Soviet/Russian aircraft designs.]Appendix 3 is a chapter devoted to know losses (crashes, etc.) worldwide, including the famous color footage of the Tresvyatskiy-Beschastnov collision at Paris). The Index begins on page 686, and includes references in the book for mentioned Western aircraft.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! You cannot get more information out of ANY BOOK on the MiG-29/ -35 series than this!

Best "Revised" Book in the FRA series!
So, I purchased the original Famous Russian Aircraft MiG-29, all the way back in 2007. Having just finished reading both books in series, I can tell you that this new book, fixes many errors (translation and transposed data points etc) I reported back in 07, Further the details on the latter MiG-29/MiG-33 variants actually improve on the detail from the original book. That being said, the new book seems to have censored a little all the performance facts and figures for the Weapon systems and weapon control systems. A perfect example of this is there is not as much data on the Radars, IRST and other systems other than to say things like Improved or describe basic physical appearance of the device.I am amending all my FRA reviews with the below datasheet:I weight the last three far heavier than the first three for my overall scoreTranslation errors (lower score for more errors) 4.75On topic Data (Better is higher) 4.5Pertinent comparisons to similar aircraft 5.0Data errors from table to text (Lower for more errors) 4.0Aircraft Sub-Variant data breakdown 5.0Specific data on Weapons carried 4.0

Solid book. Very useful. Not light...
This is a very thorough overview of the MiG-29/35 family history, development and use.The one thing you should be aware of is that this could also be a very awkward dumbell - this is not a thin book, by any means, so holding it while reading through can get tiring. Get a stand. :)The detail is worth the weight, though, and the authors live up to expectations from prior books. Very worthwhile for the modeler and anyone interested in these aircraft.

Yefim Gordon is a masterful author of Russian & Ukrainian aircraft..!!
Everything to like and nothing to dislike!! Yefim Gordon writes masterfully and these series of books written by him are the "ROLLS-ROYCES" of books on Russian & Ukrainian Aircraft - period!! No aviation library would be complete without them!! Worth TWICE the price, in my opinion...!!

Excellent book !
Most accurate material at the moment .Unforuately, no japanese aviation journalist can write such a book. They relies on for someone else's material, like a Yefim Gordon, Tom Cooper.

Another excellent book in the series
An excellent update to the 2006 FRA MiG-29 & 35. As usual a detailed and comprehensive examination of the design and development of MiG-29.

Excellent
