Cognitive Dissonance
I tried to like this book, but I couldn't. I nevertheless found it interesting with a useful core.I could originally put my finger on why I did not like it, but in the end I determined that it was because it was a mish-mash of styles and types most of which danced around the title, yet never delivered what I expected. At times this book appeared to be a scholarly neuroanatomy treatise. I am an academic and know how such things are to be written, the neccesity of larding them up with references and appropriate jargon. There is certainly enough academic information to do that. There was way too much of that for anyone not in the field. The anatomy parts were a bit interesting to understand how the mind works, but beyond that it should have been cut down or put in appendix for the 1% who might be interested. On the other hand the book at times felt like a new-age, self-help, MBA, motiviational/inspiration piece where one is told to visualize the change you want, getting mnions invested, sell your concept to the client, etc. There was nothing new there. One could read in other places how chakras, auras, yin/yang or a host of other things could reslut in a similar set of recommendations. The thing that was worth reading in this book, however, was a scientifiic discussion about how the structure of the brain leads to the kind of mind we have and how that mind leads to thse recommendations and outcomes. For me the good parts overcame the bad ones....barely.

Neuroscience on Working and Personal Relationships
The author, Dr. Srinivasan S. Pillay, acknowledges that this book mostly provides a "reframing" of commonly taught leadership and management skills. However, it offers scientific support that these skills are effective in, not only the work place, but in many aspects of leadership, negotiations, coaching, and improving relationships. Pillay explains that "brain science" can enhance the business environment by helping people repackage the way information is presented, decreasing threat between parties, uncovering myths which allow people to see how leaders think, providing new insights and evidence to leadership and coaching strategies, providing a system for targeted interventions, and developing coaching protocols and tools. Pillay does this without getting too specific for an audience unfamiliar with neuroscience. The tools provided in this book could be used by anyone looking to enhance their relationship and leadership skills, but would be most effective for readers with a technical background who prefer having scientific evidence to support decisions they make, rather than anecdotal evidence. While the book can sometimes be slow, as long as the reader has the patience to make it through the difficult sections, they will gain a greater understanding on why certain things happen in the brain and the work place, and how to be more effective in working or leadership environments. I have rated this book 4 stars because, while it provides good information and advice with sound support, at times, it can be tedious to read.

Tedious
Could have been written in about half the space. Loops back onto principles, not necessarily with a process that results in effective learning. Yet the information assists in reframing organizational relationships and behaviors into interventions based on neural mechanisms rather than Organizational Dynamics. If read together with Davidson's Emotional Life of the Brain, and Panksepp's Archeology of Mind, the three would offer a solid analysis of how the mind and brain work together, and how emotions and cognitions interact in complex fashion. This is vital to the therapist and coach in understanding complex behaviors and creating change processes.

Great guide to understanding and applying neuroscience to business. to
Great information and ways to apply it. Helped put my growing knowledge of neuroscience into greater context within specific organizational settings! Great book for coaches and managers and you can also use with others in your life. Hands on and practical. Backs up with abundant references and illustrations.Only thing that is lacking is that the footnote function doesn't allow you to go back to where you were in the text but leaves you stranded in the reference section at the end of the chapters. I highly recommend it!

Informative read on the impact of brain functionality in the workplace
This book provides an insightful connection between business and neuroscience. While not the easiest read due to the technical nature of the subject matter, this book provides some excellent insight into how the functionality of the brain impacts how people respond to issues in the workplace.

Didn't meet my expectations
Sorry this just didn't meet my expectations. Lots of science but I'm not sure that you can extrapolate all of the data to inform executives how to act.

Slow start, but aok
It seemed this book had a slow start, but finished strongly with many useable items which I have gone ahead and applied at work, such as the Ironic Process Theory and the section on mirror nuerons, among others. For me it is a thumbs up, buy and read.
