Take advantage of high-tech suspension technology with this tracking-adjustable cartridge. The Ortofon/Serato S-120 is the world's first turntable cartridge to employ a new technology known as Asymmetric Suspension (patent pending). Unlike other cartridges, this new technology makes it possible for DJs to use an exceedingly wide range of tracking force (between 1.5 to 10 grams) without any difference in sound reproduction. Not only can DJs use the Ortofon OMS-120 cartridge at extremely low tracking forces to virtually eliminate record wear when playing vinyl rarities, but the tracking force can also be increased all the way up to as much as 10 grams to provide extreme groove handling ability for even the most demanding and vigorous scratch performance. Additionally, the S-120 turntable cartridge is engineered to work perfectly with both Serato SL1 and SL3 interfaces, providing a strong 10.0 mV output and greatly reducing setup and calibration requirements. Ortofon's Asymmetric Suspension, found exclusively in the S-120 cartridge, helps the diamond to more effectively trace the groove than any other DJ cartridge, reproducing a level of sound quality formerly only reserved for far more delicate HiFi cartridges. Previous to the creation of the S-120 cartridge's asymmetric suspension, sound quality and ability to "stick to the groove" was greatly dictated by the tracking force being used; too little tracking force would often lead to the stylus jumping out of the groove during a loud passage or distorted bass response and often created severe groove damage. Conversely, too much tracking force would limit the movement of the turntable stylus, making backcueing problematic and leading to poor treble response. It could also damage the suspension irreparably. Ortofon's S-120 turntable cartridge makes these concerns a thing of the past, providing absolute flexibility in all settings. The OM S-120 Kit mounts directly onto any standard DJ headshell (not included) and includ...

Phenomenal sound quality!
I bought this cartridge because of the promise of the best sound quality from a DJ cartridge. Let me tell you, the promise was kept! I am not a DJ, just a listener and vinyl junkie, but this cart is superb. I have three Ortofon carts; the OM Q.Bert, the Super OM 10, and now the OM S-120. I have played everything from jazz like Miles Davis to synth pop like Baths to classic rock like Led Zeppelin to hip-hop classics like Nas' Illmatic. Every single genre, weight of vinyl, and vinyl condition has performed better than I imagined!Since I live in a townhouse that shares thin walls with my neighbours, I prefer to listen by plugging my Grado SR225e headphones into my Pioneer VSX-05 receiver. While I highly recommend Grado cans, too, that's a different review. My point is, no matter what you're playing and how you're listening, the Ortofon OM S-120 will NEVER disappoint. At the current price of only ~$104 you'd be crazy to pass this deal up.So, stop reading the reviews and buy it already!

gotta LOVE THAT sound.!!!
This needle is absolutely fantastic. Let me start by saying that it is really hard to pick out a needle to enhance the listening pleasure without even hearing it. I am not a DJ; however, I am a pretty good listener. This is now my favorite out of my collection of six. I have it set at approx. 1.8 and the sound is awesome - absolutely awesome. the highs come in really clear but not like on the grado blue (my least favorite) which to me makes the highs really bright. I like my shure m44 but - in my opinion - with the s-120, the definition between the instruments is more pronounced and absolutely clearer than I had expected. I am getting a collection of needles and I think I can stop buying now because I will probably move on before I wear out this needle.

Tracks better than my other Ortofon carts
Something about the stability of this needle allows it to stay in the groove during shaky table operation when my other needle (an Ortofon Arkiv) skips around. Requires less weight to keep the needle in the groove. So far it's the best tracking Ortofon I've used. Sound quality seems superior to the Arkiv as well.Note - I use these for analog vinyl. Not for digital dj / control. They sound great.

Legit and sturdy
You must be ready to assemble and balance the cartridge on your existing shell. If you find it wobbling a lot when you attempt to scratch, finely adjust the top screws and the counter weight until it moves like butter or your vinyl will get damaged and you will burn through the stylus. Much better than the blue OS DJ version for digital and all vinyl.

Perfection and Hope
Works great, even better than I could have ever hoped. Product description states an extra styli and hard carrying case are included, no extra style is included and the hard case was just the cheap plastic packaging that it came in. Although the product itself works amazingly, i was dissappointed in the product descriptions empty promises.

Good level bass
Recently have gotten back into LPs. Picked up two turntables a new Stanton STR 150 and a vintage SONY PS-X7. Turntables are used in two home audio systems. Cartridge works well in both turntables. Good level bass, mid-range is spot on, treble has good air. Instruments and voices do not break up when the systems are played with some volume. Pre-mounting is a huge plus. Price is a steal.
