Bill Snyder: They Said It Couldn't Be Done
M**N
Kansas State needed Bill Snyder in the late 1980s and 1990s more than he needed that school.
I already knew what Bill Snyder did and has done for Kansas State Wildcats football in his two terms there (1989-2005 and 2009 to the present) before I ordered this book. But this book helped me appreciate even more what Snyder was able to inject into the Kansas State football program during his first term there.Any coach or athletic director whose goal is to rebuild or start up a sports program, should read this book or at least try to talk to Bill Snyder personally.Kansas State was a serious laughingstock before Snyder got there, and they actually still were a laughingstock during his first season there in 1989 (his first team went 1-10). But he and his coaching staff evaluated what went wrong in 1989 and vowed to get better in 1990 and thereafter.Snyder, his assistants, and the players he recruited over the years in his first term not only gave the Wildcat program credibility, but those three entities gave the KSU program a sense that the program belonged in Division 1-A football and they could compete in that division.Pros of this book: Like I said before, reading this book can bring you back full circle on why Snyder was such a vital hire for the KSU program back in 1989.Cons of this book: Would have liked more detail on his 17 seasons at KSU, other than scores or mentions of his best or most well known players. In conclusion, if you want to educate yourself on how to rebuild or structure a sports program that can emit success, then you should read this book cover to cover.

Interesting Book About One of College Football's Greatest Enigmas
The book went into detail about Bill Snyder and detailed anecdotes about the fact that he gives a copy of the movie "Pinocchio" to friends or how he asked that his planes sit on the side of a plane going to Japan. However, the book is a look at Bill Snyder the coach and person. I enjoyed the book. There were detailed that I wish were in the book, such as the details he gave to the office janitor on how to do his job or the relationship to his assistants. Spencer Tillman once said that no assistant ever left Bill Snyder's program on good terms. I wish that had been addressed in the book.

Amazing........
What Bill Snyder did at Kansas State is easily, the greatest coaching job, in any sport, at any time, EVER...... Beyond belief is the only way I can even start to describe how BAD Kansas State football was before Snyder took over. Bill Snyder is maybe the greatest coach of all-time, in any sport. This book should be required reading for ALL business leaders and employees in America. Follow Snyder's steps to success, and apply them to your own life, and you CANNOT fail. Total comittment, goal setting, respect, loyalty, persistence, serious organization, and believing in others, are key components to Snyder's winning formula. The man worked 100 hour weeks, 12 months a year to make this miracle a reality. It's amazing, and it's true......

Some great stuff outweighed by a lot of fluff
The most useful parts of this book are the ones that explain how Bill Snyder shaped the psyche and ethos of the K-State program. From changing the uniforms and logo to convincing the players they could actually win, his work was truly magnificent.Details of Snyder's accomplishment are extremely worth the reading; however, to pan out these golden nuggets, the reader must wade through a lot of inconsequential filler. The book is partially a shout out to all of Snyder's favorite players and he spends a lot of time honoring them. This is a nice gesture but a waste of time for anyone who isn't a former player or a hard-core K-State fan. Furthermore, the biographical chapters are pretty dry.I recommend this book to coaches or business leaders seeking a radical team/organization turnaround just as long as they're aware of the need to skip big chunks of it.
