Something I can actually use!
My partner has started asking me _not_ to use this cookbook because I have been making so many recipes we are getting bogged down in leftovers! In contrast to most cookbooks, the recipes are just as quick to follow as they look; the focus is kept tightly on simple uncooked sauces and you will learn how to make all of them. Preparation time is pretty minimal for most recipes so it really is possible to whip up something to put over quinoa, potatoes, spaghetti squash, crusty bread, etc. etc. in ten minutes or so. And it tastes good. If the thought of a cold sauce turns you off, just microwave it for a couple of minutes and you will never know the difference. The author does a good job of both explaining the principles you need to improvise sauces without following a recipe, and supplying plenty of good recipes to try while you are getting there.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick and straightforward guide to adding flavorful sauces, dressings, spreads, and dips to their food, vegetarian or not. You probably will need to buy some foods you would not likely have in the kitchen otherwise (unusual nut butters, specialty vinegars, etc.) but most of these keep well and are good values.A word on blending - a food processor is not likely to be enough. At first I was hesitant to make anything for fear of the cleanup involved in a full-size blender full of sticky goop. Then I realized that a hand blender with a tall, narrow blender cup works excellently: nothing splatters if the cup matches the blender properly, there is no issue over cleaning food out from around the blades (just lift the hand blender out, _unplug_, and lick it off!), and it is easy to store leftovers by just capping the blender cup and tossing in the refrigerator. My Osterizer blender just broke recently but I will look for a new, sturdier one.

The Sauce Makes the Meal
I have a friend who swears that the sauce makes the meal. It used to be that the mere word "sauce" gave me pause, conjuring up images of corn starch, heavy, rich ingredients, and standing in front of a hot stove stirring. Erase those images from your mind and imagine a whole book of entirely vegan sauce and dressing recipes that you can make in a blender. That means no cooking and literally seconds to a better meal. A few recipes do call for toasted nuts or roasted garlic, but those can easily be done ahead of time, and believe me, that simple extra step is well worth it. The vast majority of recipes simply call for dumping everything into the blender and flipping the switch. With the help of this book I turned out a dinner of pasta with Walnut Pesto and green salad with Sweet Basil Vinaigrette in under 30 minutes. Even my omnivorous guests wholeheartedly approved. Included are sections on planning vegetarian meals and combining and correcting flavors. Recipe chapters are: Vinaigrette Sauces & Dressings; Nut & seed Based Sauces & Dressings; Tomato, Bean & Vegetable Based Sauces & Dressings; and Creamy Tofu Sauces & Dressings. A bonus with each recipe is a list of suggestions for each using each sauce; for example, you can use the Green Ecstasy Dressing on pasta with asparagus and carrots, on shredded daikon radish with Bibb lettuce or on sliced, ripe tomatoes. This cookbook is my current favorite!

Handy, very useful, practical; will get more use than my cookbook!
This little sauce recipe book is so handy to have! It has quick little recipes that will top off about anything you might cook up, & some that will surprise you. These dish toppers & finishers are very easy & use common ingredients that aren't hard to get or keep on hand. They're small recipes & so easy to whip up that it makes little sense to buy the more expensive, preservative & chemical packed ones at the store. And if you do still get the ones from the store, this tells you how to make it in a jiff if you find yourself wanting a certain thing but you'd have to go to town to get it. There's so much variety too! I think this book covers about any sauce you could possibly think of or come across in a resturaunt. Got a favorite meal w/ a certain kind of sauce at a resturaunt? This isn't a copycat resturaunt recipe book, but you could probably find the right sauce in this book to make your own delicious version of that meal! Very good book, extremely practical & useful, from spaghetti sauce to the seemingly fancy stuff.

MY FAVORITE COOKBOOK IN THE WORLD - JUST BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE
I own about 50 vegan cookbooks, but this one is my favorite. It's for people who already know how to grab what's in the refrigerator and cook it up, but need a way to make it all taste special. Most of these sauces only take about 5 minutes to make, but they transform your veggies/beans/grains/salads/etc. into something spectacular. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I am now on my second copy of this cookbook because the first one got destroyed from use over the years and I frequently buy it for others as a gift, and recommend it to others.

Good for creative cooks
Unfortunately, I'm not that creative. I have loved most of the sauces I've tried, but I would like to have seen more complete recipes as far as how to serve the sauce. While the author makes recommendations, there are no measurements or instructions on how to prepare the main dish that the sauce will accompany. However, I have to say that I especially like the tofu sauces. I sneak them to my non-veg, anti-tofu roommates all the time and they have no idea until after they've eaten and commented on how good the sauce is!

Lots of great recipes!
Love this book! I eat Plant Based with no sugar, salt, or oil so I have to modify the recipes but I’m used to that. My niece told me about it and I’ve bought two (one for a gift).

Delicious discovery!
This book is a great find! I think everyone would love to have this in their cookbook collection. The sauces are easy to prepare and make a world of difference in the taste of any meal - vegetarian or otherwise. I just bought a second copy to give as a gift. I love it!

Great easy recipes
I am a recent vegetarian and looking for fast ways to make my meals delicious. This book makes that possible. My only issue is that I wish it had more hypertext to link with chapters and recipes on my kindle. I have several recipes that I bookmarked so that has worked well.

Einfache Saucen

The title should really read 'The saucy VEGAN'
Misled by the title I'm afraid, which I feel perhaps should read 'The Saucy Vegan" instead maybe? There are so very many ingredients I'm not at all familiar with and that I cannot buy where I live; umeboshi plum vinegar / paste, green nori flakes, tamari soy sauce, mirin, canola oil, miso, nutritional yeast flakes, pinola nuts, brown rice vinegar, brown rice syrup, cashew butter, almond butter, crumbled silken tofu, organic flax oil. I haven't tried any of the recipes, I got very quickly frustrated looking for those I could actually make. 2 stars for inventiveness though.
