40 Reproducible Forms for the Writing Traits Classroom (Scholastic Teaching Strategies, Grades 3 and Up)

A Time Saver for the Truly Busy Teacher
This helpful book contains four, five, and six-point rubrics/scoring sheets as well as numerical and practice-paper scoring sheets; checklists for students to help them remember to include the required elements of the various genres of writing; Paper Clippers to attach to students' graded writings showing them which elements they remembered/forgot to include; and forms to help students with the prewriting processes. The Writing Modes Quick Reference will be particularly helpful to beginning writers: It explains where the various genres of writing are used (IE: descriptive writing is used in travel brochures, menus, etc.). Publishing checklists, grader/rater checklists, form containing activities to encourage writing at home, and forms to communicate with parents have also been included in the mix. Of the 40 forms, I think the prewriting form for persuasive writing may prove to be the most useful along with the Paper Clippers and the Cut-Apart Scoring Sheets. The latter will be helpful when students team up with their peer proofreaders to assess each other's drafts. Although not a must-have, for the truly busy teacher, this book is a time saver.

Ok book
I thought it would have more forms other than rubrics. If you are looking for a book full of rubrics this is a good book. I was looking for something different when I bought this book so was a little disappointed. I will use a few of the pages in this book but not my favorite.

Nothing You Can't Get For Free Elsewhere
Very disappointing:1. The graphic organizers included for each of the writing modes are nothing more than I could have found (for free) doing a simple search online.2. Rubrics and checklists included are also readily available online.3. The number of scoring sheets with the different formats, each counting as one of the forty reproducibles, seemed to be fluff to add some weight to the purchase. In short, spend some time searching for and printing graphic organizers, rubrics and checklists online. You will have saved your money and not missed anything in the process.

Good, But Not Enough Time To Use It All
Very useful forms for all kinds of writing situations, but with a lot of other curriculum provided that must be used, it takes more time than a teacher has with a class full of students.

Great reproducibles for traits!
I liked the rubrics included. It was great how it included the home connection part that explained what trait was talked about and asked parents to read story at night and check off if skills were met. Great idea.

Though it would be more
I was not satisfied with this book because it is really just a series of checklists that don't even match up with NJ's 6 point scoring rubric.

helpful
Very helpful. I modify many of the forms to meet my students' needs, but it is always easier to modify than start from scratch.
