Gifts of Love Paperback – January 1, 2000

I bought this book after visiting the authors website. It met my expectations. I really like the style of hymns that this Mrs. Gillette writes. They are modern and topical. They are a nice fit for our urban congregation. Because she pairs the new words with (mostly) well know tunes they are easy to learn, and very singable. My only dislike of this book was that the music was not included, as part of th hymn, although we project our hymns on a screen, with just the words, a music sheet would have been helpful for musicians and leader.

I would have liked the musical notation so I could play it

I use this hymn book for hymns for church services. The words are modern and relevant.

I was introduced to this volume through my research for a suitable and new hymn to use during a Mother's Day sermon. I came across the hymn "God of the Women," and found it perfect for my message celebrating the prophetic gifts women have brought to Christianity. The tune Ms. Gillette used, "Be Thou My Vision," is one thoroughly familiar to my congregants, and I received many positive responses to its use following the service. I look forward to using this collection frequently in the future.

Mrs. Gillette has truly written lyrics appropriate for nearly any circumstance! This lets us use familiar hymns and songs in situations where they didn't fit before! Congratulations Mrs. Gillette! This is a great resource for Christian choir directors who wish to interface their worship music closely with the liturgical offerings. The settings are easy to prepare, well referenced and suitable for choirs of any size or experience.

Hymn selection is a renewed joyful experience since I have purchased "Gifts of Love" and the companion book "Songs of Grace" by Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. It is so gratifying to discover new hymns with contemporary lyrics set to familiar tunes. The additional resources, such as the commentaries, topical index, and index of Biblical references are helpful. I highly recommend this book to all pastors, church musicians and worship planners.

i bought this and Songs of Grace after Carolyn Gillette kindly gavce me permssion to use one of her hymns, and pointed me to these hymn books. The words are set to well-known hymn tunes, which makes it accessible for a congregation during worship.

I really like Carolyn's hymns - the words are challenging and thought provoking, set to well known hymn tunes they are eminently singable. I often use one of her hymns after the sermon slot as a reflection.

So useful! Wonderful hymns which are set to tunes that people know. Highly recommended!

The words of the hymns are uplifting and easy to use in a group setting. The indices are such a help and save a lot of time when making choices. The use of well-known music is also a plus.
