Basics of Qualitative Research: Techniques and Procedures for Developing Grounded Theory Paperback – 6 Nov. 1998

Buying this book was one of the best decisions I have made in recent times. It is a timeless classic and a must-read for all qualitative researchers. It is good for both early career researchers and seasoned academics operating within the qualitative paradigm. In my opinion, investing in a copy of this book is worthwhile.

Brilliant

Unlike other books on qualitative research methods, this book is practical and guides the reader through the stages of developing grounded theory. This second edition provides illustrative examples which clarify what could otherwise be a dry exposition of methodology and help the novice researcher understand how the method looks in practice. If anyone is looking for a handbook on grounded theory, this is the one to get. The book has been kept to a manageable size so there has not been space to discuss this particular method in the context of qualitative research in general but the authors make a convincing case, nonetheless.

Basic as title suggests, but OK.

I think from the originators of GT itself, this book has no alternative. It is simply the best.

this was written but one of the founders of qualitative research, i've tried to read everything that he has written, it's source material and vital for any dissertation or thesis

The book provides a very helpful introduction to Grounded Theory. It allows to follow the coding process and to understand how each coding step leads to the next one and why each coding step is relevant for the overall procedure. Nevertheless it is rather "sticky", as alternative routes to coding are thinkable, or an alternative way to structure the coding process. It does not provide a full picture of the Methodological approach as part of other methods. This said, it is a book specifying the Grounded Theory approach, it does neither evaluate if that is the appropriate one nor does it evaluate how it fits with other approaches if the researcher has chosen a mixed method approach.

This book is a must have for all qualitative researchers.
