Saint Brendan and the Voyage before Columbus

This book is very well written to summarize Brendan's life and famous voyage. The style is straightforward and sticks to the broad narrative of events without veering into the more fantastical legends. I love that it presents Brendan as praying over whether to pursue the dream that stirred his soul, struggling with despair when he feels his voyage was a foolish one, and ultimately coming to realize that "all of his adventures, both the good ones and the bad ones, had brought him closer to God." This is a great message for kids today, who can feel overwhelmed by questions of what to do with their lives and what dreams to follow. More important than the particular path is walking it with a loving God. The only reason I do not give it five stars is because the physical quality of the book itself was cheap--the pages were stapled into the cover crooked.

Got this as a retirement card (instead of a reg card) for all to sign as the person is from Kerry as is St Brendan. My coworker would love to tell me how St Brendan, not Columbus, discovered America but didn't steal it from anyone!

Lesser known Saint, happy to see there was a good book on him for kids to read. Lessons to be learned in this book! Pictures were good, 3 and 4 year old loved it. Easy to read, I felt it was in depth enough about St. Brendan;s life to give them a good idea of who St. Brendan was.

Cool story to share for Irish heritage month. Some of those Irish words are hard to say, though.

Love books like this . Yes, this is more than Legend and so overjoyed there is a book for Children about it. simple pictures but very interesting
