No More Secondhand Art: Awakening the Artist Within

An oldie, but a goldie
It may be 25 years old now (if my maths is correct), but this is a fabulous book. As an artist who runs in person workshops, I found this book to be inspiring both for my personal practice and for facilitating groups. Highly recommended.

You need friends
A tremendous and exciting first part. Then you get to the long section on exercises to develop your personal art identity. Oh oh. It is all about group activities. The author sort of apologises for this and says you can struggle on and try to operate solo. Disappointing.

No More Second hand art - awakening the artist within
This is an interesting discussion of the psychological benefits of doing projects in the visual arts. The author makes his case persuasively, explaining the uplift of wellbeing experienced by people taking an active part in art. He notes the benefits which come from 'doing' art, rather than just observing and enjoying art. A stimulating read. No More Second Hand Art: Awakening the Artist within
