Rittenhouse Soil Sampler Probe

I was scared to order some cheap metal junk; this one isn’t one of those. Worked extremely well and very sturdy. It’s more expensive than some but worth it.

Soil probe is built very well and is very comfortable to use. I’m not sure why others are saying it was hard to get into the ground. MAKE SURE THE GROUND IS WET BEFORE USING THIS. It makes it so much easier. My yard consists of heavy clay soil that is packed. Well worth the money spent.

The tool has one small job and costs a lot for the simple job. But if you’re looking at this tool you’re a serious lawn care type and this is no big purchase to you. There’s probably a cheap DIY for the tools job but I don’t do cheap. Purchased, used it and moved on.

For what's out there, this tool is reasonably priced. Fifty-five bucks seems like a lot of cash for two pieces of plated tubing welded together. Not having a foot peg, this tool is just the right length for pushing into the ground with your arms. The samples popped out easily from the slit, and the tip was easy to clear for the next sample.Bottom line: works great, too expensive; but better than the full-length, hundred dollar versions.

I needed to take core samples of my lawn soil to send to the lab for analysis. This sampler cut through the toughest of soil compaction to get the 3” depth required. Simple and sturdy through the whole process.

I have hard clay soil and I've been using some soil optimizers in hopes of loosening it for further root penetration. This probe initially started out as a rock finder considering the lawn of my new build house was littered with rock. I ended up getting the majority of the #55 rocks dug out and that solved what issues I thought I had with hard clay soil. But, the probe works like it should and I have put all of my weight into it when probing and it has not bent yet... If I hit something hard, I stop pushing and use a long screw driver to see if it's rock or just hard soil. Anyway - it's a good probe and will do what you need it to do if just getting soil samples.

I had great expectations for this garden tool and it is great! Sturdy, exactly what I was looking for! It came in great packaging, and also before expected. I would definitely recommend this garden tool!

nice heavy duty stainless steel. Simple to use. Push it down in the soil, give it a twist, and out comes your soil sample.
