No References. Repetitive. Basic.
I could have gained the same or more insight from a couple of Wiki pages. OR a few YouTube videos. OR a single Paul Stamets TED Talk. No, those might have references. This was vague and repetitive and basic. Vague: p 71 The same process, with "different organisms", "may" impact the intake of "other" nutrients. Repetitive: I believe the amount of useful information contained could be condensed into a few page pamphlet including relevant pictures. Basic: I took a single semester college course on plants over ten years ago and this was still basic. I sped read the last few chapters and even that was painful. I couldn't have gotten away with saying "a study says" even once in high school without a reference, let alone throughout a published book. I have no way of verifying the little bit of potentially applicable information this book contains without references making the entire thing utterly worthless to me. I rarely write reviews and try to give two stars at minimum so as to not be extreme...for this waste of natural resources, I clearly made an exception.

Mycorrhizal fungi, you have been outed!
Jeff Lowenfels has done it again, making a complex subject understandable for people who care about the soil and how to build soil. If you are in agriculture or in land restoration, and you don't have this book, you are missing out.

This book is filled with knowledge every one needs.
The most in-depth, readable book I have found on the subject. Thing is, expensive as they are commercially, you can find and grow your own with no difficulty at all.

Great book on the fungi for gardeners at agriculturalists
I recommend this book to anybody who is interested in how the soil works and fungi play their part in this process. A great book on fungi for gardeners and agriculturalists. Fascinating to read and useful to the gardener or agriculturalist. You may not want to read it all as it is very exhaustive, but it has all the information you need, including suppliers.

A comprehensive and scholarly guide to what really happens under our feet.
A scholarly and practical guide about what goes on under our feet. It's not just orchids that depend on fungi to survive - seems like most plants do, and until a few years ago we never knew it!
