When they open the chest, they turn into mermaids with tails rather than feet and an ability to breathe in water. A voice tells them that they were turned into mermaids because the mermaid kingdom needs them to come and save them. This is a short beginning chapter book for early readers. The Thiessen family is spending one last day at the beach before their move because the family has become the victim of hard times. Miraculously, a treasure chest washes up on the beach. When they open it, they find untold riches but it also contains a magical light that transforms them into mermaids with a magical tale.A voice tells them to follow the dolphins to the Mermaid Kingdom where they will help the mermaids. Their adventure leads the family through a portal where they meet dolphins, sea dragons and octopi. Will they survive the dangers and accomplish their mission?This book assumes that the young reader will suspend judgment and accept a lot on face value, but readers in the six to nine age group will find it enjoyable.

The little ones will enjoy this book as it contains adventure, a real treasure chest. The family includes a dad, a mom, 4 children and 2 cats. The family becomes mermaids and the cats are mercats...That did make me smile.The adventure is on and the author suggests this is for ages 6 to 9 and grades 1 to 4.The children should be able to read this on their own and the adults can help, if needed.Highly recommended.

Fun adventure story I think teens and tweens will love. A family spending a day at the beach, opens a treasure chest and the transformation begins when they grow tails and join the mermaids on a grand journey. This is just book one and I think a lot of fun and adventure are ahead. This is a great idea and the author has done a good job with what looks to be a great series.

I think it was full of imagination and wonder. But I think it was too short. Please make the books you and your daughters write a bit longer! I still think this book is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! Please make more of these books!!!!

A great book for kids of all ages! Adventure, danger, mermaids, dolphins, octopuses, mercats, dragons, and even a sea serpent! A story that has it all!!

This was a delightful book and my granddaughter loved. She reads on the 1-2nd grade level, so she enjoyed reading most of it herself.
