Pocket Havamal Benjamin Thorpe Version Faux Leather Paperback – January 1, 1757

I purchased this edition for my son. The edition I use is the Auden edition. I hoped he'd be able to read it more often carrying it with him constantly. Should this be your goal, I'd recommend another edition for teens, maybe the Auden edition. This version lacks the clarity that an adult is likely to not require as much.Perhaps there is a heathen author out there who would consider writing a teen HAVAMAL ?

I found the numbering somewhat off of other versions of the Havamal, such as Olive Bray's translation. I found myself digging out my untranslated copy and comparing, which is very counter productive by nature. Kept the book in my work truck to read while eating lunch on work sites. Found myself flying through the entirety of the book about once a week. The wolf cross on the cover got me into a couple really awkward conversations with people who think "Heathen" is a dirty word. I'd buy a new version with a Mjolnir on it in a heartbeat.(Although now inspecting the other offerings for pocket havamal, there is another version with the Vulknot. I will be buying that one on pay day.) Unlike a lot of "pocket books" the print is decently sized and it actually fits comfortably in my pocket. That being said, keeping it in my work truck has resulted in the book becoming torn and the pages stained so your reverence may vary the condition.

While I like this the verse is a bit simple compared to others I have read, and is not as poetic, it does it's job as being a pocket book, it fits perfectly into any pocket, but it is flimsy so make sure you are careful about which pocket you put it in.

It's a great book to have, and this edition is great because you can take it with you wherever you go! I dropped a star because I thought it would actually have a leather-like cover, but unfortunately it is just heavy cardstock. It's still great, I just hope they make an actual leatherette edition in the future.

Excellent little book for putting in your "pocket" and taking with you. Whenever I have a moment I love pulling this book out and randomly picking a page. Whatever I find on that page I try to think of how it applies to my life at the moment. Definitely helpful for when you get to the top of a trail and want to ground yourself spiritually.Other reviewers said it was cheap but it doesn't seem cheap to me. It's just small and that's exactly what it's supposed to be so it can fit in your pocket. Also, Faux means fake. Seriously people, you are not going to get a leather book for $6 unless some poor Chinese kid made it.

I got this book hoping that it has a leather book cover but it was just a paper cover. I still like the font size and size of it.

Not only did I receive this faster than I thought I would but I like it even more than I thought I would. I have been carrying it in my purse and reading it on my breaks at work and while being a passenger in the vehicle. I really like the cover, the easy to read font, the pocket sizing and the empty pages I can write on in the back of the book. This is chicken soup for my Viking soul. Thank you for putting this together!

Small and flimsy. Looks like a pamphlet

on the one hand the content is perfect and exactly what i hoped for but i would mention that the product name "faux leather" is very misleading as the cover is not made of faux leather its still a standard softback copy its just got leather printed onto it. update the description as this was slightly disapointing

Quality of the book is not great.

I ordered this as a gift and it is NOT fake leather. Wish I'd seen the reviews earlier. Don't describe a paperback in such a way...false advertising. Not impresses.

Wer sich wie ich die Hoffnung gemacht hat, ein kleines Büchlein in einem Kunstlederumschlag zu erwerben, der wird, wie ich, etwas enttäuscht sein. Es handelt sich hierbei um ein ganz normales Taschenbuch mit Papierumschlag, das Coverbild ist in "Lederstruktur", aber alles aus glattem Papier. Ich hatte extra "Faux Leather" bestellt, weil ich dachte, das ist robuster und weniger schmutzanfällig, wenn ich das kleine Buch immer bei mir trage, wozu es ja durch sein kleines Format auch gedacht ist. Aus diesem Grund gebe ich nur 3 von 5 Sternen.Das Buch selber ist das, was es verspricht zu sein; die 164 Strophen der Havamal auf 43 Seiten. Die letzten paar Seiten haben in Runenschrift das Wort "Notes" aufgedruckt und bieten Platz für eigene Gedanken.Nachtrag: Ich habe gesehen, dass in der Artikelbeschreibung ganz am Ende steht, dass es ein Paperback in Kunstlederlook ist. Ich finde, es wird nicht deutlich genug, dass es sich nicht um einen Kunstledereinband handelt, insbesondere weil "Faux Leather" so präsent in der Artikelüberschrift steht.
