Great Work Boots
You get what you pay for with these boots. I do irrigation work summers, and deliver heating oil winters. I wear my boots a minimum of 40 hours every week of the year. In irrigation, they constantly go through wet/dry cycles daily, and in winter constant exposure to road salts, dripping oil, and winter weather. In other words, they do not have an easy life. That said, they last about 2 years for me. The soles never wear out, but eventually the leather cracks at the main crease across the toe. I never treat them with anything, and doing so may well help and extend their life. I've never had a seam or even a thread go in 10 years of wearing these boots. Extraordinarily well made. The laces are really the only thing that goes. Good idea to pick up spare laces when ordering. (I think my dog likes to chew on mine). A minor gripe is that after about a year the interior lining comes loose from the sole. When this happens you can't put toe to heel to pull off the boots, or you also pull half the lining out and have to stuff it back in. Instead you need to sit down and pull them off manually with a finger or two inside the heel to hold the lining in place. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.Breaking in: Be careful. Don't lace these up on the first day and head out for 8 hours of work. If you do, you won't be able to wear them again for a couple of days your feet will be so sore! I often work half-days on Saturdays and this is when I break them in. I put them on without lacing at all tight. The new boots are so stiff they will not slip around. After about 3 half-days, I can go 8 hours, and I gradually begin to lace them tight. Once broken in, these boots are the most comfortable thing your feet will ever know. As 1 reviewer stated, they are indeed like slippers. I buy my Chippewas a half-size larger than normal, for what it's worth. Not exactly water proof though. In rainy wet, muddy weather they are. But in standing water not so much. Winters when I stand at my truck there is often standing water/slush along the curb from the road salts melting the snow, and in these instances, the boots will take in water. Not a lot, but even a little cold water negates the insulation and woolen socks and the result is frozen feet. Without water intake, these boots have always been warm enough to handle anything RI winter dishes up. And despite the insulation, they are also never too warm during summers. This winter season I am going to try out their Arctic 50s and see how they do with the water. I am also going to try some Sno-Seal with them, which seems to be highly reviewed here.A lot of guys I work with say they'd never pay this money for a pair of boots. Then they go through a couple pair every season and always have issues with their feet. Well, do the math and then think of all the comfort these boots provide. Even when it is time to throw a pair out, they are still as wonderfully comfortable as ever. And if you work in dry conditions mostly, no telling how long a pair could last for you. You may not like the price, but if you wear your boots every day, I swear if you give a pair of these a go, you'll not regret the investment.

The BEST. By FAR
The BEST. By FAR. Chippewa really isn't kidding!!! The most durable, reliable, comfortable work boot you will ever own!!! Unlike many boots out there, these are actually 100% waterproof!!!! Now I have owned Chippewa's in the past but never this particular style, and the comfort is unmatched by any other boot... PERIOD! Whether it be Danner, Red Wing, Carolina, or even other Chippewa's, the 29416 models are the BEST boot I've come across. The insulation is great for Fall/Winter as I live in northern New England!!! And if you are at all worried about looks, these look brilliant right out of the box! Excellent color (Bay Apache) but will darken if/when treated! All in all -these are the best. By far. Get yourself a pair today!!!!!

Solid boot updated
This is a solid boot. I work in construction and this boot is solid on my feet and great outdoors and indoors as the soles clean fairly easily compared to lug soles that trap dirt. I want to acknowledge the fact that chippewa has addressed a concern with the interior lining and has added leather as reinforcement on the inside heel. I had read reviews where heel rubbing was wearing on the lining and I'm glad to see they addressed that. The insulation and waterproofing are great and are not bulky at all especially compaired to other brands I have worn. The "bootie" people refer to is not what u think, it is a waterproof membrane that is in between the lining and the boot just as any other boot. The sizing is accurate- I wear a 10 and my width is in between regular and wide and I usually wear regular in my other boots. I ordered a 10E which is a wide boot and fits snug but is perfect after some wear and break in so if you have a true wide foot you may consider going wider.

DO NOT PURCHASE!
I bought these boots for my 14-year old son for Christmas. He started wearing them to school in mid-January. The bottom of the right boot has fallen off and I am severely disappointed. These boots were supposed to be of great quality and given the $300+ price tag you would expect your child to enjoy use for more than five weeks. I’m severely disappointed and disgusted.

These Chippewa's are great
I only wear these boots during the winter months and I am on my third winter with them. The sturdy rugged bottoms keep my feet protected on any surface. The boot offers fantastic heal and ankle support and protection while the inside is well padded and comfortable. The leather outside offers durability, foot protection, and stability. It has a wide padded tongue so can lace these boots anyway you like and still remain comfortable. The waterproof feature works good even if you are out in the wet all day. And the insulation keeps you feet warm. Warm, dry, comfortable, and protection and durability - I can't ask for much more than that out of a boot. Chippewa is a division of Justin boots and made in the US. That still matters to me because I still live and work in the US and so does my neighbors.

Warning...These are steel toe boots.
I ordered this boot twice to replace a worn out pair that I love. (My wife thinks I need new ones!) I bought the exact #29416 size 13EEE that I own since they fit my foot great. I was disappointed that both pairs of boots that Amazon shipped me had steel toes. This was NOT indicated in the listing. As a matter of fact, 3 people stated that these boot were NOT steel toe in the review and there was no mention of theses boots being steel toe in the web site description. Great boot, I just don't need/want steel caps. The toe will never stretch out to fit my foot and the steel toes I have owned in the past cut into the top of your feet when you are working bent over. If you need steel toed boots this is a great choice.
