At some point in the past Sperry stopped lining their boat shoes and the very rough interior of their standard design is really irritating to the foot. (Still have the old lined version so I know what I'm talking about.) However, the Gold Cup style maintains the lining and is softer and much more comfortable, like the previous basic version used to be.
