They grow fast!
These weeping willow bonsai tree starters are everything they say they are. Quick growing and beautiful they are an excellent choice for starting a bonsai. A lot of times bonsai seeds and start kits simply don't work no matter how carefully you follow the instructions but these grow really, really well. I bought one but they sent 3 so that I had three shots at making it grow. Well all three are doing just fine. I started them in water, had to because I hadn't ordered the soil yet and they still are doing just fine. They rooted quickly in the water and have been planted in the soil I purchased from them for about two weeks now and they are doing great. Will buy again, already have in fact!!

- Review Update 01-25-20. Zero Star if available.
If these stick samples actually do anything, I will rewrite my review. The "down the road" photos of a remotely possible outcome (a weeping willow tree) from these sticks really does mislead one. I have over 24 Bonsais with several purchased here on Amazon, usually from Brussels Bonsai. They all have been immensely successful in looks and growth. After a week in 4" of mildly enriched water, they are starting to shows small buds of roots. I have rooted several amazingly successful Bonsais from similar clippings But they were free from fellow Bonsaists. The price of $25 does seem a bit high when a 3-5 year growing tree fully potted can be purchased for that.urn out to be successful but I seriously doubt the sellers timeline for success.UPDATE 12.18.18: Received Sticks 12.10.18, placed in filtered water with a trace of fertilizer 12.10.18. Kept in a south facing window in Florida (Tampa area) with other Bonsai family. As of 12.18.18, very significant root and leaf/branch propagation. Potted first stick (small one), in Miracle grow potting soil, as it has feed nutrients included. See pics. Larger stick is showing small but healthy root and leaf growth. It will be difficult to accomplish a Bonsai potting look with the fat unyielding trunk. After 14 days./ Picture added. Potted. After 20 days./ Photo shows significant growth of leaves and preliminary branches. However, The "branches" are dying off slowly one-by-one from the top down. The development of branches on this ordinary stick will never grow into something that belongs in my Bonsai family.

So far so good
I received 4 clippings. Two of them didn’t root at all and after a month I threw them out. The other two rooted and started growing leaves so I transferred them to soil after a month. One of them was doing really well but then turned black and died. This is the last one I have and it’s doing great. This is after about two months of growth. I plan to put it outside when it gets warmer. Right now it gets about 3 hours of direct sunlight a day and is in a very bright room.By the way the instructions said not to put them in miracle grow but that’s all I had so I used it anyway. Since it already has plant food mixed in I won’t add any until I can repot it in the correct soil mixture. The first month it was in the soil I watered it every single day now after 2 months I water it every few days.

It started well, big roots fast, but died as soon as I planted it in soil. It lasted about a week

It was great, but the New England Weather changed
I received the large tree cutting and two little cuttings, They were great! They got roots, the weather was 80's. Then, the weather went back to 60's and high 50's. All died within a few days. I realize that is because of the cold. There was nothing I could do. I'm planning to order again and try now that the weather is 70's. Hoping it will stay that way since this week is the first day of summer.

Ten bucks for three sticks.
Directions are inadequate, just says put in 2” of water. Doesn’t say how long they should stay in the water. Started to root and bud quickly, but buds soon dried up and fell off. Water started to smell bad. Transferred to Fox Farms ocean potting soil and kept moist. No buds grew. Went to throw them away and saw no root growth after pulling them from the soil. Lots online saying this kind of willow is easy to grow. Not in my case. Ten bucks down the drain that could have gone to a good animal charity. Do not buy. Go to a nursery and buy an established stock plant.

Read Full Product Description to Know What You're Getting!!
I am astounded at the negative reviews left for this company simply because people didn't read the product description and look at ALL the photos. What you are buying are cut off stalks of a Weeping Willow that will easily turn into trees if you simply follow the clearly written one page of instructions. Is this item giftable? Yes and no. Growing Bonsai Trees is all about patience and care for a tree that will take years (sometimes longer than your own lifespan). If you want to give someone an already grown and fully pruned and styled Bonsai, take your business elsewhere. If you want to give these as a gift they need to be given to a person who is truly interested in Bonsai. I got three clippings, one rather thick one and two smaller ones and put them in water. After just 3 days I can already see tiny roots starting to come out on the bottom and buds beginning to form. Bonsai trees take patience, care, and creativity. Those qualities are what the person you want to give these to must possess. Shipping was ultra fast, packaging was great, and I'm hoping to be working with these trees for many years to come.

I don’t think it will survive
The cutting was placed in water and grew nice roots but when I placed it in bonsai special sore it didn’t do well. I put it back in water hoping to see a more viable plant but I do not expect it to survive.
