One Hot Minute [U.S. Version]

Underrated masterpiece
This is one of the Chili Peppers best albums, but one they barely acknowledge. I have been searching for this for the last 4 years on vinyl and finally found it. It was worth the wait. Right from opening track Warped this is just a fantastic body of work but at a dark time in their history (there are plenty of references in the lyrics). Dave Navarro was/is an excellent guitarist, there are plenty of decent solos and a lovely bit of acid jazz guitaring on Walkabout. Flea was on fire with this, in my opinion the best bass he's ever played. Chad Smith is Chad Smith, one of the world's best drummers and Kiedis croons, yells and sings his way through this in his own unique style. It's a pity they choose not to play any of this album live, a real shame coz there's some great music going on here. A real hidden gem of an album.

Gives Blood Sugar Sex Magic a run for its money as greatest RHCP album
Controversial opinion perhaps, but my opinion nonetheless. Wild, psychadelic and load of fun. Such a shame they'll never perform any of those songs live

great album
I love this album so much, it's a shame that the sleeve cover looks so cheap, could have been more sturdy.

The mad, the sad and the bad!
This album bridges the gap between the mental funk of the chili peppers early albums and the great songwriting of their newer stuff. There is no spirit of punk shining through here, instead we get psychadelic melancholy pop(if that makes any sense to those that have heard it!??) an intriguing idea indeed! There are some great songs here (Warped, Aeroplane, Coffee Shop, Falling Into Grace), crossed with some not so great ones (Deep Kick, One Big Mob, One Hot Minute). As we know now, the Chili Peppers were up in the air during the recording of this; with missing guitarists and nasty drug habits running amok. It shows. This album is not focussed but who cares? Theres still a load of good quality songs, erratic sounding ones; but as a snapshot of where RHCP were at the time, this serves as a nice look back at the mad days of the band's growing up in public during the 90's!
