The Chili Peppers finally hit their stride with Mother's Milk, for the first time making their breakneck mix of funk, rap, and metal smooth enough to attract the masses, while keeping it raw enough not to alienate old fans. They've straddled that edge ever since. It didn't hurt that they offered a pretty mainstream cover of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" to introduce the album. That single though, and the rest of Mother's Milk (including "Knock Me Down" and the randy "Sexy Mexican Maid") is pure Pepper--from Anthony Kiedis's in-your-face vocals to Flea's chattering bass. Milk was also guitarist John Frusciante's debut with the group and he shines, especially on Jimi Hendrix's "Fire". --Michael Ruby

One of the best albums I own!!
Absolutely LOVE this album!!! Im on a big Chili Peppers kick lately so I decided to buy this album and the only thing I regret is that I didnt buy it years ago!!! There isnt a bad song on the entire album, I find it incredibly fun to listen to....the guitar and bass work on this album are absolutely rockin and if you can listen to this album without having to get up and start rocking out to it...well then I dont know what is wrong with you!! Anthony Kiedis' vocals arent quite as refined as on the later albums, but they are by no means bad!! The songs are very catchy and fun. It always puts me in a better mood when I throw this album in! Love it!

Vintage Chili Peppers
Before their transformation by uber producer Rick Rubin, I can say although their music was not as potent as it is today it still had its moments and Mothers Milk is testament.After regrouping after the death of guitarist Hilel Slovak and the departure of drummer Jack Irons, Anthony Kiedis and Flea regroup with new drummer Chad Smith and guitarist John Frusciante and this album is the result.Although Blood Sugar Sex Magik is my favorite Chili Pepper album, I think this is their best album that was not produced by Rubin. I also like the fact that this version of this album also has bonus tracks.Try this album.
