Fun settlement building game
This is a fun, and quick, settlement building game! If you're a fan of Catan, you'll like The River! It's faster to play and easier to learn than Catan. We really enjoy playing it!

It’s a great game!
It’s a really good game. I am a gamer and own over 150 board games. Can’t figure out why the hate. I like it, my wife likes it, and my daughter who is a huge gamer loves it. I know a lot of people only agree with the dice tower. Who are great reviewers , but don’t hate just because they do. Everyone has an opinion and that is just theirs. The game rocks for families, and light gamers!! Which I am a gamer with a family!!

Light strategy gateway game.
A light resource management game. Great gateway game for those unfamiliar with resource management games. Good components and easy to teach. Overal fun game even for hardcore strategy gamers.

Meh. Other DoW games are better.
I own many Days of Wonder games. Cargo noir is by far the worst one. I would place this one as my second least favorite DoW game. It's not that it's bad, it's just not that much fun to me or my regular gaming group. Especially when compared to their(DoW) many other great games. And it's only 4 player max, while most of there other games are 5 player max which is often perfect for my group. Like I said not bad just better off getting one of there other games if you dont have them. I would personally recommend Coliseum, shadows over Camelot, and pirates cove.

A great game!!!
If you want a family version of Catan this is it! We were able to teach it to and play it with our seven year old son, while still having strategy and depth.

Very enjoyable game!
Quick to learn and a very light-mid game with very simple rules. Fun in all amounts of players 2-4. I definitely recommend this game for any family!

The game itself is pretty fun. You have to, manage the building, gathering resources, and collecting terrain tiles while trying to maximize your points and prevent other players from getting their points. There are different strategies to get the most out of your resources and tiles, so I think the game has pretty good replayability. The only issue is with the instruction manual. It's a bit vague at times so figuring out how to the play the game took a while. Also, there are specific scenarios where there don't seem to be any rules, so you have to agree on a rule as a group. It can take a good chunk of time to get through your first game but once you get going its pretty fun. Played with three and four players. Haven't had an opportunity to try the two player side of the board. I would recommend it to any fan of board games. If you liked "Splendor," then you 'll probably like The River.

Plays just as well in 2 player mode as 4 player Well thought out with multiple ways of winning Easy to learn One single criticism, would have been better if it had included score sheets and/or a scoring track Highly recommend
