SB1-R Smoke Alarm

Great products & easy to assemble with a good price tag too.

These are top rated for sensitivity to all types of fires by Which magazine, beating the competition, mainly Aico, even though Aico are several times the cost. The downside with FireAngel is false alarms which are widely reported. Industry people prefers Aico as they dont want hassle. My plan is to buy several extra FireAngels, and immediately bin and replace any that give a false alarm, no second chances, and by Darwinism achieve a reliable system. The included battery is useless, bin and replace with Duracell 9V MN1604.

It's small and tidy, which I like. The plate comes off the back easily for fixing to a surface. The battery was new, wrapped in cellophane and worked at first test: it's LOUD, no one could sleep through this, not even a one-brain-cell orange tabby cat. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with this smoke detector. The only thing I can see that I would improve is the length of the wires that connect the battery; because they're very thin wires and not very robust, and had to be bent at such an acute angle I was concerned that they would break when pressing the connected battery into the back. If the wires were slightly longer and more robust I would give this a 5 star review. I would give it 6 stars if it came with a one-brain-cell orange tabby cat. EDIT It was fine for 3 days and then it started sounding without reason. Had to take the battery out. :(

Great little battery operated smoke alarm. Looks quite discrete when mounted (I used command strips, but screws and rawplugs are provided). Based on an optical sensor not the older radiation source/alpha particle ones, but, weirdly, still have an expiration date....not sure an LED or optocoupler has a half life but what do I know!? Is this a ploy just to keep you buying new ones in the future!? Anyway, runs on two AA batteries (supplied) which is great, apparently last around 5 years but I can't validate that, they are easy to change in any case. The alarm is pretty loud too. I've found that sometimes steam from the bathroom can trigger mine in the hallway so they seem sensitive, but I think thats a good thing. For the price it's a simple fire risk mitigation to help keep your family safe, recommended!

Good value and the same size as the old one I have so don't have to change the fixings.

Fitted the old fixings so didn’t have to drill new holes. Really neat on the ceiling & excellent alarm & smoke features.

They are an absolute pain to install. Easy enough to screw the plate in, but then the main part is supposed to just twist on - it does not.

Le modèle à batterie scellé se met en défaut bien avant la date de péremption. Au moins avec celui à piles on peut les changer.
