Wasteland

Time for a more critical voice.I honestly think that after Piotr's passing the band should change it's name. This sounds more like Mariusz's side project rather than Riverside. The band claims to have moved on yet they didn't replace the main guitarist and you can clearly hear that this is Mariusz trying to fill in the gaps.Apart from River Down Below the guitar is soulless and hollow.As a prog rock album this is 7/10. As a Riverside this is closer to 4/10 and if you have any doubts please listen to it back to back with Love, Fear and the Time Machine or even Shrine of New Generation Slaves.Try it on Spotify or YouTube before you decide as this album is definitely not for everyone.

Just as I was starting to really appreciate Piotr Grudziński's subtle contributions to Riverside, he was taken from us suddenly. I had feared with this tragedy that Riverside would never be the same. With this release I feared that Riverside would either copy his style without the personality, or stray from it so far it no longer sounded like riverside. Neither has happened. The solos are modest and similar, but do not feel like they are attempting to copy Grudziński.I also had fears that with Mariusz Duda taking over guitars (except solos) that this would turn Riverside into a Mariusz Duda solo project. Yet this to me is still recognizable as Riverside.I've listened to this as an album a few times now and I can confirm it's very good. The album is heavier in many places than the last few releases, but succeeds in having a distinct style that is recognisable as Riverside. Quite a few songs alternate heaviness and melodic in a way that sounds very natural. Mariusz Duda brings some really nice touches with his rhythm guitar work, yet retains his distinctive bass work too. I am finding that a lot of the elements that made the Reality Dream trilogy are here, but more refined and mixed with the better aspects of the subsequent albums.My fears turned out to be unwarranted.

I, like many other reviewers, was worried that this first album without guitarist Piotr Grudziński wouldn't live up to previous offerings. I needn't have worried. Yes there are nods to Lunatic Soul, but this is unmistakenly Riverside, and one of their best albums in my opinion. It's probably their heaviest album for a while, but it has absolutely beautiful moments too...The Night Before makes buying the album worthwhile on it's own. My album of the year for 2018....awesome!!March 2020 update.....this cd has rarely been off my player. It is my most played album of the last 2 years. It is absolutely brilliant and just gets better and better the more I play it. I buy a lot of cd's and nothing has come close to this in the last two or three years.

Of course , its different.If you like riverside you will love this.Astonishing album in its own right.We were all crushed by the loss of Piotr .its a credit to the multi talented other guys to carry on ,for them ,for piotr and for us.Buy it ,turn it up ,absorb it.The king is dead ,long live the king.

I accept that this isn't Reality Dream material but the band is evolving. Don't get people who say they are not what they used to be .. that's what musical evolution is all about! I sense that this is mainly a Duda influenced project but there are plenty of outings for the other musicians. It's bold and it's beautiful and there are still echoes of earlier albums no doubt, but with lots of new twists .. almost an international feel to some of the music, certainly more eclectic than most of their previous albums. Looking forward to seeing them on tour (Birmingham).

An absolutely incredible album. After the sad passing of guitarist Piotr Grudzinski, the remaining three members have created a beautiful album, that is a great tribute, and regular vocalist/bassist Marius has done an incredible job on guitars, occasionally with other guitar guests.A perfect album in every way, with superb twists and turns!

audio, but I found the band's work to be a weak, sad and tired sound, the lyrics are good, I do not know if the versions were very slow, but I still consider it a good record, maybe later I learn to like it more, compares to none of the band's disc, I just lacked this to complete the entire band collection, they are very good, maybe it's a phase

Not the best Riverside album, but some strong numbers here that lift the whole album.

Après le décès en 2016 de leur immense guitariste Piotr Grudziński, l'aventure Riverside reprend en trio avec ce grand album qui est l'exacte quintessence de tous les précédents. On retrouve des échos des hauteurs atteintes par leurs trois derniers chefs d'oeuvre, par ordre de création : la puissance heavy de Anno Domini High Définition, la merveille d'inspiration progressive de Shrine of New Génération Slaves, le nirvana mélodique de Love, Fear and the Time Machine... (j'ajoute à ces trois merveilles le EP Memories in my head qui est un petit bijou à lui tout seul et qui résonne aussi dans ce Wasteland). Riverside est un des plus grands noms de la scène rock prog d'aujourd'hui et cet album de transition, à la fois échos du passé du groupe et prémisse de l'avenir, annonce de grandes choses.

Wasteland est le 1er vrai album de Riverside depuis le décès dramatique de leur guitariste Piotr Grudzinski en février 2016. Désormais réduit à un trio, le groupe sort un album concept adoptant le point de vue du survivant d'une tragédie dans un monde post apocalyptique. La charge émotionnelle est perceptible. Le groupe évolue dans un univers proche de Porcupine Tree. Les instrumentations sont très riches et la voix peut-être un peu plus posée que d'habitude. Ce 7 ème album est d'une grande sensibilité.

... was könnte ich über dieses Werk schreiben, das meine Vor-Rezensenten oder Musik-Fachblätter nicht schon angemerkt hätten ... sie schaffen es einfach immer wieder mich so dermaßen emotional zu berühren, bei mir chronische "Gänsehautentzündung" hervorzurufen & das wichtigste, mir Pippi in die Augen zu treiben ... man kann gar nicht anders als mitzusingen oder mitzupfeifen ... was für ein phänomenaler, magischer, einzigartiger, emotionaler Trip ... kaufen, kaufen und nochmal kaufen ... Album des Jahres oder mehr! ...

Sicuramente il miglior lavoro della Band Polacca, nonostante recente il grave lutto per la perdita improvvisa del chitarrista. I toni neo prog e metal si fondono perfettamente e non c'è un brano debole che sia uno. Registrazione e missaggio da riferimento, con una dinamica che raramente si sente di recente. Vinile silenziosissimo e privo di difetti.Consiglio l'ascolto in cuffia ad un volume adeguato, soprattutto per conservare i rapporti di buon vicinato e non divorziare causa sostanziale indifferenza alla buona musica :)Ascoltato con: piatto Audiotechnica LP 5, ampli Audio Pro, CD Onkyo, cuffia Sennheiser, casse Ar.

„Wasteland“ heißt das siebte Studioalbum der polnische Progressive Rock Band Riverside. Das Album ist gleichzeitig die erste Scheibe, die nach dem überraschenden Tod des Gitarristen der Band, Piotr Grudziński, der am 4. März 2016 am plötzlichen Herztod verstarb, veröffentlicht wurde. „Wasteland“ erschien am 28. September 2018 auf dem Plattenlabel InsideOut Music und ist angefüllt mit spannender Musik, die über sehr viel Abwechslung verfügt.„Wasteland“ klingt sentimental, „Wasteland“ klingt melancholisch und „Wasteland“ klingt auch manches Mal traurig. Und dabei geht die Musik auf „Wasteland“ ins Ohr. Wunderschöne Melodien lassen sich auf diesem Album entdecken, welches nicht besonders tief im Progressive Rock wurzelt, seine Abwechslung aus verschiedenen Stimmungen und Atmosphären, Tempi und Rhythmen bezieht. Über allem schwebt allerdings diese leicht düstere Eingängigkeit der Musik, die sich schnell und konsequent im Ohr festsetzt und deren Melodien sich dort tief eingraben. Und genau das ist auch die Stärke dieses Albums, welches in wunderschönen Harmonien schwelgt, in die tief einzutauchen lohnt. Natürlich wird auch mal ordentlich gerockt, „Vale OF Tears“ ist ein gutes Beispiel dafür, wie Riverside sanfte Melodien und harten Rock zusammen in Einklang bringt, sodass alles erst richtig zu wirken scheint. Das klingt sehr überzeugend. Der Abwechslungsreichtum wird zudem sehr groß geschrieben auf „Wasteland“. Es ist nicht nur der Rock, der hier in sich variiert wird, auf diesem Album bekommen Hörerin wie Hörer auch sanfte slawische Einschübe zu Gehör und selbst Fans der Italo Western, mit der Musik von Ennio Morricone, wird ein leichtes Lächeln auf die Lippen gezaubert werden.Die Höhepunkte auf „Wasteland“ heißen „Lament“, „Wasteland“ und „The Night Before“. Auch bei diesen Stücken spielt Mariusz Duda mit seiner Band mit den Atmosphären und dies so überzeugend, dass man sich sehr einfach auf diese Musik einlassen kann und darin aufzugehen vermag. Allerdings sind dies nur drei Beispiele von insgesamt neun Titeln, die auf ihre Art und Weise alle zu überzeugen wissen und einfach gefallen, wenn man auf solch Genres wie Art Rock oder auch Progressive Rock steht. Der Anteil an progressiven Passagen auf „Wasteland“ ist dabei zugegebenermaßen relativ limitiert, wenn auch die Ansätze bezüglich Komplexität von Rhythmus und Melodie immer wieder ansatzweise zu hören sind. Aber eben lediglich ansatzweise. Doch macht das nichts, das Genre spielt keine Rolle, denn „Wasteland“ klingt einfach überzeugend, egal welchem Genre die Musik angehört.Fazit: Das siebte Album der polnischen Band Riverside klingt zum einen sehr melancholisch und reicht bis hin zu richtiggehend traurig klingenden Passagen. Doch die Musik packt in all ihrer Abwechslung, in den vielen unterschiedlichen Stimmungen und Passagen, die man auf diesem Album geboten bekommt. Über allem stehen dabei die eingängigen Melodien, die in jedem Titel enthalten sind und einfach schön und einnehmend klingen. Gerockt wird auf „Wasteland“ und die Platte enthält ebensolche Passagen zum Innehalten. Einfach gelungen.

Die "schönste" Platte seit langem... War eher ein Versuch meinerseits, ich bin aber wunderbar positiv überascht!Eine Empfehlung für alle Freunde des progressiven und musikalischem Rock und Metall... (eher Rock ;)Ein sehr gutes Album vom Anfang bis zum Ende! Super Sound noch dazu ;)Endlich mal wieder ein Album das man wirklich komplett durchhört und genießt...weiter so! :)

Da vecchio amante del prog, nelle sue mille sfaccettature, devo dire che da tempo non mi capitava di ascoltare lo stesso album tante volte di seguito. Ciò che avevo letto di buono è confermatissimo: i Riverside ci hanno regalato una perla preziosa, dai testi alla musica, un disco davvero imprescindibile, grandi aperture strumentali, ritmo, melodia, momenti riflessivi. Insomma: 10 e lode!

Riverside wurde mir von einem Amazon Kunden empfohlen nachdem ich eine Rezension zu Anathema veröffentlicht hatte. An dieser Stelle: Danke, der Tipp war ein Volltreffer.Riverside passt perfekt in die Reihe der Künstler die bei KSCOPE unter Vertrag stehen. Leider ist die Verfügbarkeit von Vinyl fast nur noch auf die letzte LP Westeland begrenzt. Hoffentlich gibt es alsbald einige ReIssues was meine Preferenz an Musik schmeicheln, meine Geldbörse zu heftigem Protest anstacheln würde. So what: Riverside ist jeden Euro wert.

J'ai voulu renouveler un peu ma discothéque et grace à you tube et aux propositions d'albums d'amazon me replonger dans l'univers trés contrasté du rock progressif d'aujourd'hui.Meme si tel ou telle reverb ,harmonie, sons ou structure rythmique vous rappelle pleins d'albums ou groupes différents ce groupe a quand meme de trés bonne compos superbes et variées!Trés bon musicos en plus!Enfin la musique étant subjective ne pas hésiter à aller sur you tube pour ce faire un idée.Je signale que j'écoute de la musique depuis 1970 et meme si je suis nostalgique des anciens groupes et albums: snifs! Je suis heureux de savoir qu'il existe quand meme un créativité musicale de nos jours qui fait plaisir à entendre et pas forcément que de la technique soulante mais de la bonne musique qui touche l'ame!!

Wasteland, ultimo album dei Riverside partorito dopo la scomparsa del chitarrista Piotr Grudzińsk due anni fa. Struggente ma anche duro, con la voce del bassista Mariusz Duda che ne piange la mancanza. Un lavoro ricco di suoni, emozionante e coinvolgente. Un disco che mi ha colpito, uno dei migliori ascoltati quest'anno. Consigliato!

I Riverside riescono ancora una volta a dare alla luce un album meraviglioso. Questa versione in vinile è composta da due dischi e tre facciate: la quarta, non incisa, ha il logo della "R" in rilievo. Suona meravigliosamente. Uno dei migliori album sentiti negli ultimi anni.

Ich kannte Riverside gar nicht, bin beim Stöbern auf Wasteland gestoßen. Das Album hat mich umgehauen. Musik mit Tiefgang, großartige Kompositionen (im Wortsinn!). Auch die Produktion sehr gelungen. Großartig!

Discazo, quizás no tan redondo como su anterior 'love, fear an the time machine', pero los polacos vuelven a hacer un gran disco de rock progresivo-atmosférico. Como de costumbre, no entra a las primeras escuchas!

On sent une pudeur (après le malheureux décès de Piotr) mais une volonté d'avancer.OK, certains diront que cela ressemble beaucoup à un nouvel opus de Lunatic Soul, son projet perso.OK, c'est loin d'Anno Domini, mais qu'est-ce que ça sent la renaissance.... Je me le passe en boucle, etje ne m'en lasse pas! Si Mariuz Duda pouvait me lire, pourrait-il me dire s'il va enfin accepter de sortir ledouble live à Tilburg......Please, do it!
