Can a person be to heavy for this apparatus ?

Recommend maximum user weight is 280 LBS.

How durable is it? the ones i've seen in the gyms are always down for repairs. i like the machine, but i can't put up with constant breakdowns.

No probs yet, but bear in mind that machines in gyms get a ton more use and abuse that a machine in one's own home.

Is it easy to assemble. How is this equipment assembled

Yes. It is very easy to assemble . It comes with the tools to assemble it. It took less than 30 minutes to complete and I had the help of a toddler.

Yes it needs weights. This product does not come with weights, I purchased two 10lb weights works great with this product.
