Stick it to the ants!
I tried a few DIY solutions such as VapoRub on the pole and cloth tied to the pole soaked in bleach, the ants walked right through it, damn they're hardy. But haha, they can't swim. You know what's almost as fun as seeing the hummingbirds land on the feeder? Watching the multitude of ants crawling around on the pole and down to the moat in frustration. This thing works. Score: Me, 1, Ants 0.

Needs frequent refilling
It gets the job done. I just wish it was bigger. While my small dish style hummingbird feeder needs to be refilled every 4 or 5 days, I need to refill this thing every day. I have found that the least messy way to fill this is to put 5 or 6 ice cubes in it every day. When I first got it I needed to refill it every 2-3 days due to water evaporation. House finches have started to stand on the edge of it a drink out of it. They also poop in it. Now it goes almost completely empty every day. The weather is cooler now, so I think this is mainly due to the house finches. It's just a bit of a hassle to fill it so frequently. It is definitely effective though.

Best thing since sliced bread!
How have I not bought one of these before? I live in Arizona. We have huge numbers of ants. These ant moats keep the pesky things out of my hummingbird feeders better than anything I have ever tried! If you are bothered by ants in your feeders, do yourself (and the birds) a favor, and buy these! I couldn't decide what the difference was between the two moats other than 50 cents, so I bought one of each. One is orange and the other is red. The orange isn't scary bright. The red is a dark red. Both are opaque so you can see the water level. The orange is supposed to match oriole feeders, but I like it better because it is more see through therefore making it easier to see the water level. I even have little finches drinking from the moat! The most utilitarian item while also being entirely cute.

Really works against ants.
We bought one of these because our backyard hummingbird feeder was literally black with tiny ants. We live in a mild climate & have hummingbirds at our feeder all year. Once we added this to the top of our feeder, the ants were eliminated & the hummingbirds once again had exclusive access to their sugar water. We use unrefined sugar in the feeder because we had heard that it was better for the hummingbirds.

Awesome ant moat
I love the way this looks with my hummingbird feeders. It's large enough for the hummers to drink or bathe in and it is so much more attractive than the other ant moats I have purchased. I actually have one for each of my hb feeders. It holds enough water that it doesn't dry out on a hot sunny day. I would recommend this product.

Easy to install/fill
this holds quit a bit more water than I thought it would. Haven't seen any ants on my feeders since I put them out there and it is really easy to take the feeder off it to refill

Awesome
I have used the setup in the photo for about 15 years. It’s the absolute best hummingbird setup. And this is the best ant moat I’ve found, and I’ve tried a lot of them. As a bonus, bigger birds drink out of them and smaller birds bathe in them. Oh, and no ants, ever.

Finally the hummingbirds come to the feeder!
We had a CB&Sons Hummingbird Feeder, and the birds would come close to the feeder, but wouldn't drink, must have been because of the ants getting into the sugar water. Now, with this ant trap, they fight to get to the feeder and empty it in a few days. A perk is that chickadees like to perch on the ant trap and drink from it. It seemed expensive for a piece of plastic and metal, but it works and the trap is large enough that it doesn't dry out in a few days without rain.

Large volume works well.
This works very well to prevent ants from getting onto my hummingbird feeder. It has a large volume so I don't have to fill it up very often.
