Iron Thread. Southern Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu Classics Series (Shaolin Kung Fu Online Library)

Good book, tuff to follow without prior training.
I will give this five stars but read carefully. The manual is top notch and if you are learning iron thread hung gar it is irreplaceable. However if like me you have no experience in the art this might be difficult to follow. I have a strong background and karate shotokan and western boxing. I have been able to dabble in wing chin, tai chi, and some other arts no problem but this is very different. With a companion video or even multiple pictures taking you through movements it might be doable but each form only has one pic and even though it has the most thorough of written discription it is too complex for me to know if I'm doing right. So in full very great book for any gong fu practitioner but plan on finding a master as well. I sure can't lol. And there is very little help on the internet for this obscure beautiful art. Amituofo! Keep your a swords sharp!

With better pictures for it would be a good learning tool
If you're reading this then you're probably interested enough in it to be glad you bought it.The truth is, always has been, and always will be, that learning from a good teacher is the best way, if not only way, to learn martial arts. So if you want to learn this...good luck. It gives you good instructions and has decent drawings of every posture, but I just can't be sure if I'm getting it right. So I did the right thing and put the book down. Got a good story from it, know that if I ever have a chance to learn it that I will want to do so, and then the book will be of great value to me.I'd say the books in this series are all worth getting, even if just for the stories they tell. But if you want to learn from books or DVDs I suggest YMAA, anything Dr. Yang puts out is great and second only to real teaching from a good teacher.

Best Translation of a Treasure
Andrew Timofeevich has masterfully translated Lam Sai Wing's (Author), Tid Sid Kuen - Iron Wire form with easy to understand and follow instructions. Martial Artists need to add this one to your library even if you don't intend to learn the form. It opens up the essence of Hung Gar which can greatly benefit those in both soft and hard styles. The illustrations in combination with the detailed instruction make it easy for anyone to enter a heretofore secret art.

Historical context
I read a good portion of the book and the history of the book had grammatical errors in it. Otherwise it was a good book. I am intrigued by the history of such Martial Arts and the origin of the art more than actual practice. Anyway I recommend the book.

Great book!
Well written and presented. I've been watching YouTube videos of the form and surprised at how the book helps interpret those forms.

Tid Sin Kuen

a very good book for those who love studying or practising alone
a very good book for those who love studying or practising alone, even to work out your own version of the form,or look on you tube to clarify it.ive very much enjoyed this book, one of the better ones in my collection.it does help if you already have experience of the hung kuen system as some moves are not shown, but can be found or worked out easily.i do recomend this manual.
