Lasko 9" Tabletop Ceramic Space Heater with Thermostat - Silver - 754200

I bought one of these heaters to use downstairs in my computer room. That room has no heat at all in it. I spend a lot of time on my computer and in the winter I just about freeze to death down there. I did research here on Amazon and read many reviews before deciding on this one. I really liked the idea that it was thermostat controlled. I put the heater next to my computer desk on the floor and set it to #1 and then turned up the other knob until the heat started running. This heater put out a lot of heat, even on the 1 setting, and my feet began to feel hot. So I got a small step stool I had and put it on that to see if the heat would cover the rest of my body better. This was a big improvement because then my whole body was warm. In fact, it warmed me so well that I had to push the heater further away from me and not point it directly on me because it did get a little too warm after awhile. My computer room is a rather large room, at least 16X24, so the room does not get toasty warm with this heater. But it does take off the chill of the room and makes it comfortable. I have never had to use the #2 setting on this heater and from what I understand from reading here, the lower the number that you use, the less electricity that you use. I liked this heater so well I decided to buy another one for a large bathroom that we have--the bathroom is as big as a very small bedroom. I take showers and this bathroom is the only one that has a shower stall in it, but during the winter it feels so cold in there after you get out of the shower. So I ordered another one. Evidently the second heater I ordered did not come from the same seller and later I found out it was a refurbished heater. That would explain why this 2nd heater did not run well. Not only did it not push out the heat, it made a terrible noise. I told my husband that something was wrong with the heater and had him to compare the 2 heaters side by side and even he could tell the difference in how much the heaters put out. I call Amazon and told them the problem. I sent it back to Amazon, free shipping back, and re-ordered another one of these heaters. It was when I decided to send the 2nd heater back that I discovered it was a refurbished heater--and the price for the refurbished heater was a higher price than the band new heat I bought the first time. There was only about 3 months difference between the times I ordered the first and the second heater so there should not have been that much of a rise in price. The 3rd heater I ordered came and ran just as well as the first one did--and was a cheaper price than the refurbished non working heater I bought the second time. So make sure when you order one of these heaters that you are not ordering a used/refurbished heater or you might run into the same problem I had. Would I order another one of these heaters again? You bet, because for the money they put out a lot of heat and work very well.

Every morning we wake up in North New Jersey chilled to the bone. Fall has just started but it is a most wicked cold that sets into your bones. My brother-in-law's house heater is broken right now so we just have to grin and bear it. 6 of us live here so we're just a pile of blankets right now until the repairman can get over here. I have little patience for feeling cold, I just downright hate it. Cold has always been worse for me it seems than for others as cold actually feels painful to me. My fingers get stiff, slow and curl a little depending on how cold it is and my thighs tend to burn. If someone can't provide the heat for me I will go solve the problem myself. I researched heaters found on Amazon for 2 or 3 weeks looking at not only star ratings but user reviews. This one looked pretty good to me but to be honest it wasn't the forerunner in my heater quest. The Lasko "My Heat Personal Ceramic Heater" was actually my first choice but after some mixed reviews and some people calling it junk I passed on it. I had it in the cart ready to go I just couldn't reconcile myself to all the reviews that said it stopped working. It's compact size had me eyeing it also over this one but ultimately I chose this ceramic heater and I am very glad I did. This heater is by no means giant but it is bigger than what I would have hoped for. I honestly only wanted something about the size of a coffee mug but that's a little unrealistic and anything that is that small seems to have reviews of it breaking or making strange noises, I liken it to a chihuahua...shakes,sputters and isn't too stable (falls over fairly easy) due to small size (sorry chihuahua lovers). The dimensions of this heater are 8.5 inches tall X 5.5 inches wide X 6 inches across the top. It's not too big as you can see. The heater does a really good job in the morning of warming us up in the short time between waking up and rushing to get ready for work. In about 10 minutes a frosty room is a pleasantly warm room (we use low setting otherwise the room would be boiling hot in that short time span). I keep the heater elevated on a dresser top at the foot of the bed but pointing towards us and I can actually feel the hot air blowing on me from that far away, I love it! The heater has 2 knobs on the top of it. The first knob for adjusting 0 (on,off) , fan (for cold air), 1(low heat) and 2 (high heat output) and the other knob is your heat/temp control, on the bottom of the knob is a power icon. I haven't exactly figured out WHY the first knob has a little power symbol on it it's not like the knob can actually turn to it and shut off so it appears as if the symbol is there just to take up space. Located between the two knobs is a little oval red light. It is always turned on so long as the heater is plugged in, it never shuts off. As I write this I am in bed, in my fuzzy pajamas with the heat blowing on me...I know I should get up and start my day but the envelope of warm goodness around me is too good to give up - this heater is a dangerous thing when I want to stay in bed with it blowing on me lol. We paid 20 bucks for it , I can't complain about that at all. Amazon has other heaters selling for insane amounts that don't have half of the rating this little thing does. I am pleased and happy all around with the purchase. A man that HATES any sort of warmth doesn't mind this thing and actually welcomes it in the morning, that says a lot considering it's been a 4 year battle with my man to get some heat in the colder months. He likes it about 50 to 60 inside the house (when we had our own) and I adore 75 - 80 weather. Quite a difference there in what each of us thinks is comfortable temp. I pick on him and just tell him not everyone was born in Siberia (he literally was born in Siberia). So over all I give this thing a 5 star rating based on the almost week we've had it. Here is a quick review of the good, the bad and the ugly of it all... The Good : -Small -Nice silver color -Amazing job warming us and the room up -No typical heater odors other than the "used for the first time" smell you get when any heating element is warmed for the first time -Great price -Sturdy construction -Easy to understand controls -Can provide you with either warm or cool air -Auto temp gauge to shut off when the room is the desired temp -Overheating protection (although I've never had to test it, it's never overheated on me) Decent length cord (it's not the longest but it is longer than most we've had through the years) -Red light always reminds you it's plugged in -casing stays cool to the touch (but the grill gets hot) -Has a little mini handle (good only for VERY small hands) The bad and ugly: -can't figure out why one of the knobs has a power icon when you can't shut it off so that the red light goes out -would be nice if it had tip over protection (although it's pretty stable but there is no accounting for animals or kids that may knock it over) -The handle is not the best it could slip right out of my fingertips since that is all that really gets in there is the tips of my fingers Overall I am very happy. I am a heater fiend and I just love this thing. I would buy it again if for some reason this thing kicked the bucket.

Bought this space heater to use in a room about 12' x 15' feet I'd estimate. I've been running this guy since the end of January and it has kept the room nice and toasty. The unit is pretty compact, it's easily smaller than a gallon of milk, which is a metric I'd guess most people can visualize. The space heater has two dials, one allows you to choose your setting, and the other is a thermostat type setting. The setting options are: - Off - Fan - Low Heat - High Heat For my room, the low heat setting has been more than enough to keep the room warm. The high heat setting draws a lot of power, and I if I place the unit on high heat and have any other power cables for speakers, a computer, or whathaveyou plugged in to the same outlet, then the surge protector will usually have to spring into action to prevent the tripping the circuit breaker. This may be due to the age of my building and potentially the power restrictions for each circuit. Regardless, the low heat setting provides a steady stream of heat. The second dial is for the thermostat and has about 11 options. The thermostat setting basically will just turn the heater on for a bit, and then turn it off for a bit in an attempt to maintain a certain temperature. It is a relatively low-tech unit, so the thermostat options are not related to temperature values, so if you want to use it you'll have to just figure out what setting works best for you via trial and error. Personally, I just turn it all the way up, even when leaving the unit on for the night. Being a ceramic heater, for the first week or so of use, there was a distinct ceramic smell that was given off when the heater was turned on. It was not an overpowering smell at all, and it didn't bother me in the slightest, it is just something to be aware of. The unit has a fan, and so there is a bit of noise, but it really isn't very loud. I think that bit of fan noise is worth the benefit of having the fan blow the hot air from the ceramic out into the room. All in all, it is a very good product and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a small space heater.

UPDATE: Three and a half years later, this little heater is still working just as well as it did when I first got it, and it's kept me warm through 4 very cold winters (if you're from the northeast, you know what I mean). I would still very much recommend this heater, but want to add one tip: if you plan to have this heater very close to you (like a work space), make sure you face it towards you, but not directly. The hot air blowing from it tends to dry out my eyes and give me slight headaches at times, which is to be expected. Stay warm, fellow Amazonians! There is a never-ending battle between me and my boss when it comes to the temperature at the office. He likes it to feel like we work at the North Pole, whereas I like to actually feel my extremities. Problematic, see? In comes this cute little heater. I keep it under my desk and have it slightly propped up in front, so that it's facing upwards at about a 45 degree angle. Not only does it keep me nice and toasty throughout the day, but it also helps me to control the temperature around me whenever I need to. The two switches on top of the heater work like so: ** Left switch - 0: Off Fan: No heat, just a fan 1: Light heat 2: Strong heat ** Right switch - 13 strength levels (including the - and +), which controls how hot you want the heater to be. This also controls what seems to be the climate control, because the heater periodically shuts off to keep it at that level of heat/temperature. *** SAFETY PRECAUTION: For those of you worried about the metal at the front of the heater getting too hot to the touch, I can attest to the fact that it has never been too hot to touch, thus far. BUT if you have small children around, you might want to keep it elevated or at least blocked off, because the heat itself can get extremely high, and feel like it is burning your skin right off, if you have it on high enough. For the last two years that I lived in my shared apartment I would get really cold in the winter in my room. I adjusted my programmable thermostat to be 70 or 72 degrees when I'm home but that wasn't enough sometimes because what it said the temperature was was below what it actually was, and it would heat the whole downstairs floor but I'd spend most of my time in my room. I'd find myself being careful about wearing layers indoors and still being cold and wearing double socks sometimes, and I had sewn two blankets together to be warm when sleeping. But after buying this space heater I didn't have to deal with any of these problems. I was free to just wear one sweatshirt and sleep with one blanket and not wake up freezing. The winter isn't miserable and confusing anymore and I can finally just go about my life normally! So if you have the same issues I definitely recommend this space heater. This space heater heats up my medium size bedroom really well. It does have a thermostat so it will stop working after it has heated the space sufficiently and then start working again when it needs to. I saw someone on a review complain about how it was too hot with any setting, but I don't have that problem. I keep it on the lowest of the two settings on the left dial and somewhere on the lower half of the right dial (in different places depending on how cold it is outside) and it's fine for me. I think the second setting on the left dial is for large rooms. This space heater doesn't have that automatically turn off option if it falls over (which I don't think space heaters of this price ever do), but it seems very balanced on its base, not like it would fall over. Even if it did, the front of it doesn't get so hot that it should cause a fire or anything. This space heater looks like it's very well made in general too. I had a cheaper space heater before that somehow broke and the coils started burning bright red after a while. I don't think that should happen with this space heater because it looks to be good quality. I turn it off when going out for long periods of time to save on energy bills but when I come back I just turn it back on and the room heats up quickly. I love this space heater and I recommend it. :)

For a small electric heater, this thing is awesome. It has done a great job for me for over 2 years. One other great thing is that you can sorta clean it without opening it. After unplugging it, I held it face up and sprayed into the front grate with air in a can, and the air pushed the globs of dust to the back part of the heater where I was able to take the dust out with a cue tip. If you want to make your room more toasty during those cold winter nights, I strongly recommend this product. In addition, I should note that the heater has a power '1' setting and a power '2' setting; the power '2' setting might give off a bit of a burning smell, but there is no reason to ever use the power '2' setting. The longevity of my heater might be attributed to the fact that I use setting '1' only. I'm willing to bet that some of the negative reviews indicating poor quality were a result of people using power setting '2'. I personally recommend not using the maximum setting on any electrical item: Fan, Air Conditioner, Heater, Refrigerator, etc. 2014 update and adjustment from 5 stars to 4 stars: This is the 6th winter I'm using this heater, and the heat function works at maybe 25% strength of what it used to be. It was wrapped in plastic over the winters, and this type of longevity for this product exceeds expectations based on the price point. The main reason for the adjustment to 4 stars is that the thermostat just didn't work as well by the 3rd year - I'd wake up to being uncomfortable and have to turn the thermostat lower, then wake up 2 hours later because it was too cold in my room. It's a very good product. Wrap it in plastic during winters, and NEVER use the 2 setting (never use highest setting on any electronic if you want it to last long.) 12/14 update - bought a new one, and didn't realize how much power this thing has considering the price point. For under $30 this thing heats up a medium sized room. So it's apparent as it gets older, the intensity declines, but it's very gradual; it does the job for 4-5 years. I'm going to leave this at 5 stars as long as the thermostat works for at least 2 years, like the last one did.

I bought this heater recently to replace my other Lasko heater after my wife broke it. This is meant as a simple personal heater that I usually use under the computer desk or in the bathroom when I shower (so the bathroom isn't so freezing when we get out). As a simple heater, it's GREAT! I especially love the two modes of 750w on the 1 setting or 1500w on the 2 setting. I usually use 1 to conserve energy yet get some warmth from it. However, the PRIMARY reason for this review is to express my DISDAIN for the so-called "handle" at the top of the heater. It is basically a tiny cut out, maybe an inch deep rectangle that deceivingly lets you THINK you can carry it from there. The fact of the matter is, it's nearly impossible to carry it from there. It's simply too shallow and there is not foregrip area to offset your grip. Overall, it's a great little heater, but I have to say, this little flaw gets me every time. Lasko, PLEASE just make a REAL handle that arcs over the top again. This "design" is terrible!
