Adds variety to encounters if you play often. Great art and card quality, some interesting new card decisions / mechanics. I always like to have fully expanded games so a no brainer for me

Scythe Encounters provides 32 new cards to be added to, or replace, the encounters found in the base game of Scythe. These cards offer events that can drastically change the game. They offer items that can greatly improve a players goods, forces, income, combat strength, and popularity to a greater level than the base game encounters. That is the main theme of this deck which is very overpowered outcomes. An example of this is a player obtaining 9 coins, or 5 popularity, by skipping their next turn. Another great addition is additional beneficial actions that may be used later. This involves players holding onto a card until they are able to play it. An example of this is a player being able to teleport to any mine or tunnel on the board when they choose to discard the card. This expansion makes encounters fun and enticing as players will want to obtain these new powerful cards before they are all taken. If this sounds like too much, they can easily be shuffled into the base encounter cards to make it only a possibility that an overpowered card can be found. This is a good addition to the game that can make encounters even more interesting.

If you love Scythe, play it often, think it's great you'll appreciate this upgrade. I would say this is quite possibly our number one game of all time, so we have slowly upgraded as much of it as possible. We play it often enough that we've gone through all the base game event cards and wanted more for variety. The art on these is still amazing and fabulous and many bring in ties to Wind Gambit which is fun. It's more of the same of what you are used to, so again I will mostly recommend this for very frequent players of the base game and those who want to upgrade their game to get even more enjoyment out of it. For the average Owner who plays Scythe less often, it's a personal choice then, if you like upgrading and having everything for a game you fit the target audience for this as well. Otherwise I won't say this is necessary or game changing in any way, the variety in cards is already there with the base game so this is just for fun or wouldn't be needed at all for other players. If there were ever a new bunch of Factory cards I could get my hands on that would be in my opinion a more almost required purchase.

Much better encounter cards than the origional game comes with. Well worth it.

The use of these cards changes the game quite radically. It generates some fun situations, but it definitely affects play balance. I tend to seek out encounters much more when using these cards, especially if I am behind in the game, in hopes of finding a rescue. If you are serious about your strategy when playing Scythe, you probably won't like the random element the cards introduce. On the other hand, if you are looking for a more casual game of Scythe, they are fun to play with. A good addition, but not for use all the time (IMHO).

These cards are a fun addition to the game of Scythe especially if you are a big fan! You can replace old ones and use just these or combine them, and that’s what we’ve done! Some of them are pretty powerful! But we like the twist it adds to the game, compared to the regular which are all pretty similar in a way as far as just gaining resources, popularity or power. One card in this new deck allowed player with encounter card to move their character to any empty space on the game board, which helped them avoid needing the movement over rivers ability.
