A lot has changed in the last 5 years...
the price seems a bit high, but the quality is much higher than the last pen i owned. It works well with PLA/ABS. I still need to test it with TPU. The slow speed is slow enough for good control. The temperature control works well. It was a bit surprising that the recommended temperatures are much lower than those for my Tornado Printer. The case comes apart easily with the supplied spudger. The head is held on by a very small screw, and a screwdriver for it is provided. I was unable to get the head off. I should watch the video. The body of the pen is much narrower, which makes it a lot easier to hold and control. Double pressing the feed button locks it on, so you get a constant extrude without having to hold the button. All in all a nice little pen to add to my tool set.

Great pen!
This is a great pen. Firstly, all 3d pens are unreliable due to the nature of their design. Thats why so many reveiws express issues. Some part or another is cheap and doesnt hold up. Many are as good as trash when they become faulty because you cant replace the faulty parts. The heating element in this pen is the faulty part. This is my 3rd 3D pen. The other two brands broke and are not servicable. This unit can be taken apart and serviced if need be. 3D pens and printers are a hobby and like most hobbies it can be rather expensive when breakdowns occur. If you're a hobbyist, spending 30 to 50 bucks every several months to keep producing art is really not that much. This pen is lighter than others which makes it seem a little cheap but the features show the quality. Unlike other pens, this one will feed the plastic 2 ways. First, you can hold the button which stops the feed when released or you can double click the feed button and it will continuously feed which is nice for larger areas. The heating range is adjustable in 1 degree increments which is nice for acheiving the appropriate flow and consistency as each plastic is different and use different temps. The gnome house in the picture i attached was made using wood filament. Overall, its a good pen. Ive only been using it for a few days so i can't speak for its longevity, but ive got about 15 hours on it with no issues. Customer service seems to be readily available for any issues you may have. I am pleased with this purchase. I was happy with the other 2 brands i purchased but they just didnt hold up. Hopefully I can update this at a later time with an equally positive review. Happy printing!

So far so good.
Nice pen. Simple to operate and so far, no problems at all. An LCD screen is the only way to fly. Nice storage box with magnetic closure... These kits get rearranged all the time, and the included "extra heating element" they mentioned was not included, so I purchased one here at Amazon... only a few bucks. I like having a backup. I don't draw with it. I use it mostly for 3D printing work, building objects, repairs, welding plastic pieces together, and so forth. I use a soldering iron, hotmelt glue gun, welder... various things.... but this pen shuts itself down. (Update May '23: The auto-shutdown is driving me nuts. There's no battery so why do it every 2 minutes. All my other tools are hot, and sit there waiting for this pen to reheat. Jobs take more time. Auto-shutdown is actually wasting energy.) When I reach for it, I know I'll have to press a button, sit there, and wait for it to reheat. By the time it does, whatever I'm working on probably cooled and hardened, and that also needs re-heating. This is a constant, and I suspect will be a perpetual annoyance. I'd like to eliminate that 2 minute auto-shut-down. I bet it's as easy as plugging the pen into a computer USB port, and reprogramming one number... I made a spool and holder to fit this pen. It holds about 25 feet of filament. If you know someone with a 3D printer, they can find the STL print files on Thingiverse and print one for you.... Go to Thingiverse dot com and search for "Spool for MYNT3D Pro 3D Pen". One other thing... The provided USB cord is the stiff kind. Not a soft, silicone type.... You gotta fight the weight and stiffness of the cord. The cord is stamped with a 300 volts rating. That might be a little overkill...

I'm hooked on the MYNT3D Pen
I'm writing this review after one day of use and with no basis for comparison, because this is the first pen I have like this. After I buy a few more to review, I may or may not update this as needed. I got this for my mom and decided to "learn" it so I can help her if she needed it. Here's my list of findings: I am giving 5 stars at this point because the pen does what it advertises and comes as described. Personal opinions are denoted as such. TL;DR- I like it. It works. It's as described, and it's fun. Who's this for?: Everybody really. Children, with supervisor, can easily and safely use this pen to get creative. Also, it's not just for art related things, it can be used for household tasks of repairing plastic items. The end result of the plastic is hard and depending on how much filament is used, it can be brittle or tough. I would not call it bendy or pliable. Pros: COST- very affordable, including replacement heads, plastic filament, and 3rd party items EASE OF USE- Extremely easy to use with a small learning curve. Not as dainty or fragile as I thought it would be. Really detailed projects will take practice, but I believe really creative people will have a blast making all sorts of things with this. I did make a 3D box, including "writing" vertically, and it was easy enough as to not require extraordinary patience. I made several written scripts with this and a couple of 2D things like a butterfly and a heart. I'm not creative at all, so I was just making stuff up to see how it worked and show my mom. It was so easy that I kept trying to find things to do. I also ended up fixing the end of a broken plug by filling in the gaps and repairing the break. So it's not just for art that this might be of use to some. QUALITY- Nice box presentation, and most importantly SIMPLE. The pen feels good, it's plastic and light. Even with the squared sides, it does feel comfortable in the hand and does not get in the way of the project. SETUP/OPERATION- I was up and running within 3 minutes of opening the box. It's fairly self explanatory, but there are many videos available to help. Setting the temperature and waiting for warm up took less than a minute, then loading the filament took a few seconds and I was ready to start pushing plastic. I went through the red spool pretty quickly just messing around, but I'm not bothered by that as replacement spools in larger sizes are available. Might have been nice to include more plastic as I'm sure it's not very expensive to produce, but I understand sample packs and residual income. CONS: (disclaimer: I had to think REALLY hard to find cons about this thing) The power cord is short. Too short. You can use a power brick with this, but it has to put out 2A continual power. That's probably more useful depending how close your desk is to a plug. Obviously you can use an extension cord too, but I think the power adapter should have been a touch longer. I do think more filament should be included in the sample pack, but this is understandable since the company would want you to go buy more, so this is just an opinion. I think it should ship with a carrying case. (subjective)

The Hobbyist's Favorite
1. Precision & Control OLED Display: This is the standout feature. The small screen shows you the exact temperature of the nozzle. Why does this matter? Different brands of plastic filament melt at slightly different temperatures. Being able to adjust by 1-degree increments prevents the plastic from burning or clogging. Speed Slider: Instead of a button with 2-3 speeds, this pen has a physical slider. You can dial it down to a crawl for detailed vertical lines or crank it up to fill in large areas quickly. This "stepless" control is a major advantage over competitors like the 3Doodler Create+. 2. Material Compatibility Versatility: Because you can adjust the heat (130ยฐC to 240ยฐC), you are not locked into one brand of filament. It works with standard 1.75mm PLA (biodegradable, smells sweet) and ABS (stronger, smells like burning plastic). Exotic Materials: Advanced users report success using wood-infused or copper-infused filaments, provided they adjust the temperature correctly. 3. Build & Ergonomics Design: The pen is surprisingly slim and light (roughly the size of a fat permanent marker), making it comfortable to hold for long sessions. Power: It runs on USB power, but it requires a 5V 2A output. This means you can run it off a high-quality portable power bank, making it portable. However, the included cable is somewhat short, which can restrict your movement if you are tethered to a wall outlet. 4. Maintenance & Durability The Nozzle: The nozzle is ultrasonic-sealed to prevent leaks, but clogs are inevitable with 3D pens. A huge "Pro" for this model is that the nozzle is replaceable. If you jam it permanently, you can buy a replacement nozzle for ~$8 rather than trashing the whole pen. Learning Curve: It is not "plug and play" like a glue gun. You need to learn how to feed filament correctly and, crucially, unload it immediately after use. If you let the plastic cool inside the pen, it will jam. Should You Buy It? YES, IF: You are an adult, teen, or artist wanting to make actual sculptures, cosplay props, or repairs to 3D prints. The precision controls are unbeatable for the price. NO, IF: You are buying this for a child under 10. The hot tip is dangerous, and the maintenance required to prevent clogs will frustrate a young child. For them, get a "low temp" pen like the 3Doodler Start+.

Good features, fair price, some user serviceability, runs off USB battery packs
So far it meets my expectations, but the last two stars will require some additional use and experimentation to earn. First off: I bought it and some generic black PLA to use, since the included ABS can produce toxic fumes and I'm not ready or inclined to mess with potentially toxic material. It will run off my cheapo USB battery packs to melt and extrude the PLA. It MAY require a better battery pack to reach the higher temperatures to consistently melt the included ABS. The pen DID reach ABS melting temperature on battery when I momentarily set it there to clear the ABS factory test material stuck in it on arrival (the fact they test the pens before shipping is appreciated). Specifically, I set the pen to the recommended ABS temperature, immediately reduced it to PLA temp as soon as it reached it, and THEN fed the PLA into the pen until it extruded the loosened ABS. I figured I should explain this process in case other PLA users are concerned as to how to clear the ABS material prior to switching to PLA. The pen seems to automatically shut down after a minute or two without the extrusion button held down or locked to auto extrude, helping to prevent accidental damage to anything it might be resting on if you forget about it. I noticed motor noises when I would let go of the button that seemed to indicate an auto retraction process was going on, intended to reduce stringing, which is a feature many advanced users appreciate. I should note the autoretraction does not benefit PLA use as much as ABS, but Im glad it's there. The pen is slimmer than many out there, although still kinda thick if your not used to 3D pens. Part of the reason is because of the lack of internal battery, but I find the USB power cord to be superior because A: an internal battery can go bad after 3 years and make the pen worthless. B: The external battery pack support means you can switch batteries for longer projects. C: The pen is going to have the filament sticking out of it ANYWAY so a power cord sticking out with it is not going to bother me personally unless theres a chance the pen tip can melt the cable when it's hot. My only major complain is the pen does have a slightly cheap feeling to it, particularly on the speed slider, but as long as it runs when I pull it off the shelf every month or two for the next couple years, Ill be happy.
