Microscope is great, the digital side needs a bit of work.
Being the type of person who enjoys different things at different times, I purchased this microscope so I could look at the world that I cannot see. I had an old USB microscope which was like 30 bucks and it did not look good even at 40x. This microscope is AWESOME to say the least. This microscope compares to the ones used at the local schools and one of the hospital labs in my area. The image is clean and detailed and lets me look at everything perfectly. The only complaint I have, and it is not with the microscope itself, it is with the digital imager, is the low resolution. Once I installed the software from the disc and attached the camera, the computer recognized it right away and I was up and running within 5 minutes, most of the time was to install the software. The camera is only 640x480 so do not expect high quality images with it. Using it with the microscope at 40x, the picture is clear and I love it. Once you go to 250x, the image gets blurry because the camera cannot pick up the detail the microscope shows at this level and at 400X FORGET IT! I feel a 1.3MP or even a 2MP camera would be much better for the magnification that this microscope can achieve. I understand the cost would be more, but it would also be worth every penny. I have no tried the 25x optic since the 10x shows me what I need and want to look at right now. PROS: High Magnification Excellent Clarity Easy to use LED runs off batteries or AC power. I like the battery option so I can take it with me and make slides on the fly while out and about looking at things. CONS: USB Camera quality sucks for anything higher than 40x magnification. The microscope quality is what I was concerned about so no star reduction because of the Camera. It is nice to have for low magnification images to share with friends online. Has pointer built into objective lens and that irritates me but is handy when trying to point something out to another person. If there was an option to get rid of it, I would love it. I am not going to knock off stars because this is just a peeve for me. Conclusion: If you are going to buy this to use with a computer most of the time and want to use high magnification, skip this and go for one with a higher resolution camera. If you are going to use this with kids or the occasional digital image, this is more than enough for any household use and I would recommend it to anyone. I have already had three of my friends by this microscope for their kids and they are loving it. Kids do not care about the quality of the camera so that is a plus for it. I would certainly buy this microscope again but I would skip this exact one with the camera and get the one without it since I am not going to be using it often enough.

Very nice microscope at a reasonable cost
Like most people, I had never heard of AmScope before. Positive reviews encouraged me to dig deeper and see what they had to offer. I looked at many of their models, and some of their rivals, and settled on this one because of the cost, and the features. This model comes with 3 objectives (4x, 10x, 40x) and two different eyepieces (10x and 25x). - I'll probably never need anything more than the max 1000x combination. However, it's nice to know that I could replace an objective later if I wanted to. There are 2 different lights. 1 beneath, and one above. - You can't use both simultaneously, but I don't see that as a problem. The bottom led light is plenty strong for almost any situation, but it's nice to have the top light if you were to place a solid object on the stage that would otherwise block the bottom light. It can run on 3 AA batteries, or with an included AC adapter. - It's just nice to know I can bring it somewhere. I'm not tied to a wall, even though I'll have it plugged in the majority of the time. There is a coarse, and a fine adjustment knob. - There are knobs on both sides in a convenient location. - There is a little bit of play in the fine adjustment knob, but it is still effective. This version came with a 2 megapixel camera and software. - I've so far loaded the software on a laptop with Vista, and I have had any issues yet. There is a digital manual included, but I haven't needed to look at it. Things are pretty intuitive. - To use it, you simply remove the eyepiece you currently have on, remove the lens cover, and slide in the camera as a replacement eyepiece. No tools necessary. - The quality of the image is pretty good. A weaker camera just wouldn't be as fun. If you want a camera, I'd start at this rez, and maybe bump it up some if you can. It will work out well for my needs though. Other features: - The handle is pretty convenient. It's not needed, but I kinda like having it. - The microscope as a whole seems sturdy and solid. Objectives are easy to rotate, but snap satisfyingly in place. - The stage has two spring clips. I would love to get a mechanical stage for slides. Other thoughts: The binocular versions are probably worth a look, but I have no problem using one eyepiece. If you think it might bother you or give you a headache trying to peek through one, then consider it. Personally, I find it easier to focus using one eye. Of course, if I'm using the camera, I'm using my laptop screen. I'm really glad I did not get a lower resolution camera. The 2 megapixel version this camera comes with is nice. If you think you'll use the camera a lot, then consider spending a little more on upgrading the camera. This one suits my amateur needs. It's purely for fun, and this one does a nice job. I like that a dust cover was included, but I may try to find a bag or something to store it in along with the extra accessories. I'm really happy with this purchase. I'm going to enjoy it.

This kit with the camera is fantastic! Quality of the scope exceeds my expectations, and the camera is very good quality, good resolution, and a lot of fun too. I was glad it came with two eyepieces of different magnification, because the lower magnification is much better when you are starting out. I bought a bunch of slides to go with it and my 8yr old daughter had a blast for several hours after opening it. I had to show her how to change magnification, and I mostly controlled the software, but there is kids software from Amscope (we didn't try it yet), but the full version software has a lot of features. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this scope for beginners and amateurs.

Software worked great, I didn't know much about scopes when we first bought this. Basically for seeing objects they need to be very transparent. My next buy will be a dissecting microscope so I can see more interesting things.
