The W is meaningless. It cannot work over a network.
The scanner itself works. You can connect using a USB-A to USB-microB cable. It obnoxiously will refuse to scan over a certain length. I scan receipts, so it's sometimes a problem, usually not. Connecting this to your wifi is sincerely impossible. You have to put the thing into Direct Wifi mode by opening the tray (the white tray you open to look at the scanner itself, not the black paper holding tray). Then hold the X button for 5 seconds until the wifi button blinks. Then you close the tray and it runs an access point. Credentials are on the back. You're supposed to use the Brother Mobile Connect app to then connect to the scanner to input your credentials for your wifi. This does not work. The app is an unconscionable train wreck. It cannot detect any devices and YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THIS SCANNER WIRELESSLY. You've been warned.

Excellent scanner
For my needs, it is the best scanner I ever had (and I have used quite a few.) I am moving and I have tons of papers, so I decided to destroy them but to digitize many of them. In a few days I scanned lots of documents and various papers like medical, banking stuff, tax returns, technical papers, etc.. The result is organized in multiple folders and amounts to 1.27 GB which represents a lot of data. This little scanner is optimized for this type of utilization, of course I would not use it to scan and copy photographic material. It is really small, very easy to use and it interface is extremely well done. A feature I like, is that I could select PDF output and the result is a readable PDF document, the OCR is done automatically. Of course I also appreciate the wireless capability, one less wire and flexibility of placement. If you use it at 300x300 dpi its scanning speed is very fast, and when I compared the output with 600x600 dpi, which is slower, there was no significant difference in quality. I am used to traditional flat scanners but this one is so much painless to use that I am really impressed, and of course it is quite inexpensive. I strongly recommend it.

Wireless may not work
Worked well, except spent hours and hours trying to use it wireless, to no avail. Brother’s tech support finally told me to buy a cable. It is an odd cable; stores did not carry it but I was able to pirate one from a backup disk drive.

Super impressed, especially for the price.
I've wanted a scanner that will feed more than one page at a time and doesn't take the time and effort of a flatbed. The Brother Wireless Portable Compact Desktop Scanner ADS-1250W is everything I wanted it to be - easy to set up, super compact (I can use it anywhere and am not tethered to a bulky machine), efficient and does a great job. I'm trying to reduce the papers I have filed - things I don't need physical copies of, but should probably have access to. After sorting, say, the medical or utility bills from last year, I can scan 20 pages at a time and the PDFs come out great. I appreciate the ability to add additional pages, save with whatever settings I want, and wherever I want. I did have a couple of issues with really long papers (like end of year social security statements for my mom) but I just scanned these one side at a time and added them to that year's tax file easily. It's speedy, accurate and easy to use and control. Highly recommended.

Mixed feelings
I'm quite ambivalent about this scanner. On the positive side, it's a pretty nice piece of hardware for $230. It holds its own against the Fujitsu sheetfed scanners, which cost hundreds more. Scanning is fast and the quality is good (when you can get it to work), and the sheet feeder works reliably. On the other hand, this is definitely a personal-use item. The first rowdy teenager that tries to scan a document will likely break off pieces of the delicate plastic feed guides. Other than that, the negatives all have to do with software and configuration. As many have noted, the kit doesn't include a USB cable, so forget trying to set it up until you get your hands on one of the unusual USB3 cables it requires. In theory, you can set up the scanner for network use without a USB cable. However, the specified procedure for doing that simply doesn't work. And it doesn't matter anyway: once you configure the scanner by using a USB cable, the Scan button STILL won't work unless the scanner is hard-wired. I was curious to see what response the scanner was expecting from the network, so I hooked up a network sniffer, a piece of software that catalogs and saves every data packet that appears on the net. I can see the network setup configuration data being sent from the Mac configuration app to the scanner, and the scanner seems to accept it just fine. But when the Scan button is pressed, the scanner does absolutely nothing. It never even attempts to contact the intended recipient of the scan data on the network. I would suggest that buyers think of this thing as a wired scanner. Just ignore the putative network features. They function only well enough to lure you into wasting a couple of hours trying to set them up.

BEST SCANNER!
I've purchased other portable scanners and they were either hard to use, the scans were not good, etc. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. It is a little bigger then I thought but you really don't need a case since the top folds as a cover to protect it. Would need to wrap the wire around the unit or remove it and put in your brief case, etc. What I love about it its so easy to use. I can go to my laptop select the "Brother iprint Scan" icon and can start a scan from there then either save to my pc, email, saved to dropbox, onedrive etc . BEST PART there is a app and can launch a scan directly from there. Can create "create workflows" if you scan with the same options for certain things so you don't need to always change it each time. Will scan a 2 sided page at the same time. I like that I'm not stuck standing at the printer to scan. I can take this scanner where ever I am to scan. Even outside by the pool on the patio table. (It needs to be plugged in so have to be near an outlet). You can select if you want it scanned as a pdf, jpeg, -

Can't even set it up
UPDATE: I would buy the Epson if I could do it over. I waited too long to return this one. Not only is it difficult to set up, it is hard to get the pages set into the feeder straight so they get pulled in at an angle a lot of times. Now, there is a "skew auto correction" that will correct a lot of this, but sometimes the page still is skewed after scanned. You just don't feel like you ever get the pages set good when you put them into the feeder. Also, the little paper guides that you adjust to the size of your paper are hard to control. When you close them in on your paper to stabilize it, it pushes the paper around and skews it more. First Review: The instructions on this are miserable. They say quick start-up, but they don't work. You will probably need the special usb cable (not the regular one) to set it up and it does not come with the product. The quick start- up refers you to the on line manual for help, and it doesn't say a thing about how to connect the device. So, if you want to buy this, buy the cable first, else prepare to be frustrated! I'll write another review once I get it set up and start using it.

Excelente produto
Compacto e leve, quase não ocupa espaço na bancada. A velocidade de operação é muito boa, só achei que faltou uma "bandeja" para seguro a folha após ser digitalizada.

A $301.00 Scanner comes without a $2.00 Cable + fails to install and setup
A $301.00 Scanner comes without a $2 Cable -- cable and makes the installation harsh - liability for those who do not have that type of cable. At this kind of cost, the missing cable (Not supplied) of a total value of most likely $2.00 makes the entire installation impossible since it is mandatory for the Wireless installation as well. After writing the initial review above, unfortunately I have to review it and revise my conclusion: I reduced my evaluation since once installed the scanner couldn't stay on and the start button is flashing constantly. The scanner is permanently off line and upon repeating the painstakingly install I gave up, wrapped it and returned it. It was a fairly frustrating experience. The instructions are confusing and all the best efforts to complete it in four separate ways failed at the end as the device goes off line and stays unusable. The install and attempts, the drive downloads and the software, the internet study, the videos seen, the brother site visits, all went useless versus the death of the device which is off line and cannot stay on. As I got through the previous buyers' reviews, I am so sorry I didn't read these fist. Extremely disappointing experience and product.

Wireless connection and default settings are terrible to sort out, but otherwise ok
I had to fiddle with the settings and also my wifi settings for almost an entire day before figuring out it<s because most wifi are set to give automatically an IP address, but this scanner definetely hates that, as it keeps forgetting the network and then just refuses to reconnect when left on automatic. I had to figure out how to use assigned IP address setting (a setting that everyone keeps saying is not needed and keeps making more complicated to get access to) on my wifi router, in order to get it to work properly. Because of how inconvenient that is in today's world, it lost 3 stars from Ease of use, as lots of folk would not be able to manage to sort that out on their own. If you are not tech savvy and want to set it up on wifi, you'll want to be aware of this difficulty. Other than that, the scanner works fine, it does what it's intended to do. It's pricey, but not as much as others, and preferred this than those of other companies that try to force their software on you and then try to get you to buy a service subscription to access their scans (which is what I had an issue with my previous scanner).
