I needed to purchase and install a 4 in. Round Weatherproof Extension Ring to contain the wires.
I needed to purchase and install a 4 in. Round Weatherproof Extension Ring to contain the wires. The previous model was flush mounted and worked for 25 years. This mostly plastic model looks and installs similar to the old one which was metal. This model seems like the sensitivity and range isbetter. I use LED spotlight bulbs. Has been working great for 2 months now. The weather has notbeen below freezing yet, but winter is knocking on the door here in Michigan.

Good for the price
As a ten dollar sensor light, these things do just fine. They are a bit fragile, however, so care must be taken to not torque the plastic too hard. They are about the cheapest sensor light fixture around, so they fill my particular need (cheap and easy quick install.) The sensor as such works very well, although they have a 3-5 second delay before turning on.Also, one of my units is a little glitchy, it likes staying locked on sometimes, and then I have to power-cycle it off for a minute and turn it back on (I have mine wired to a regular outdoor extension cord with one end cut off to hardwire it to the fixture, and the other end with the usual outlet plug.)My main purpose for installing these was for assisting a surveillance camera system. These give the necessary illumination to keep the cameras from switching to the grainy night-vision mode (using halogen lamps.)

Great Value
This light lacks some of the versatility of other, more expensive security lights. However, if your requirements meet the specifications of this product, it is a great value.Simple install, works as described.I would prefer a longer warranty than 2 years, but I have had other Heath Zenith security lights which lasted much longer than 10 years --- and which probably used the same sensor components.A caveat --- one is instructed to drill out pilot holes in the light fixture to fit the junction box. This is fine if you are also installing a junction box at the same time. You can turn the junction box to aim the light as you wish. However, if you have an existing junction box which is securely installed, the screw fittings on that box are unlikely to position the light in the correct orientation.Solution: Use a metal strip to connect 2 opposing fittings on the junction box; drill a hole in the center of that strip; drill a hole in the center of the light fixture; use a screw/bolt to pass through the light fixture and the metal stripNet Result: Light fixture is held in place by a single screw/bolt in the center, allowing the fixture to be fine-tuned in its orientation.

Adequate plastic design, missing switching feature to override motion only lighting
There are all metal light fixtures and plastic ones and I have no problem with either for the quality and cost comparisons. The features of this light are the basic ones you want for a motion sensing light and not much more. I have installed other motion lights that have a feature that this one does not have. It is to keep the light on by switching the power on, off and on quickly within a couple seconds and the light will stay on until switched off thus suspending the motion sensing causing the outdoor light to stay on if desired until you reset it with the power switch. I had thought this was a standard feature of all motion sensor lights.
