A Novel For all the "Girly Girls"!!
I too am writing this review because I think some of the previous reviews are very harsh. I really enjoyed this book, if you want to read something serious, this book is not for you. The characters are in their own little world, similar in ways to SATC, but I too agree that the girls in SATC are far more realistic, & on another level than the girls in this novel, as lets face it, has anyone ever had "sore nails"!! - not "moi", & probably no one else, & yes, the romantic plot would probably never happen, but thats the fun. The Bergdorf Blondes are not meant to be taken seriously, as lets face it, in most ways, they are quite silly, but this is hilarious, & I think this is the intention. I think Ms Sykes has a great writing style, & if you love NY, SATC, Vogue, & hearing stories from the incredibly rich, then you will love & laugh throughout this book. If you are not a girly girl who does not understand, or are intrigued by the so called "importance of a brazilan wax", this book is not for you. Personally I am really looking forward to Ms Sykes next novel :)

Modern jet-set satire
While annoying at times, the narrator's shallow, entitled, and status-conscious world-view did an excellent job of reflecting the ill-behaviors of one particular segment of society circa the early 2000s. There were moments when it was difficult to know whether Sykes had written a brilliant satire or this was, in fact, her world. Either way it's a classic from the period; read it if you're looking for a fun, reasonably-well constructed story about excess and social climbing set in the various jet-set pit-stops of the world.

What do you expect?
I'm writing this review because I've read the others and find them too harsh.Yes, this book is absolute fluff. But, what do you expect from a book called Bergdorf Blondes? Surely the author intended it as fluff! I bought the book because that's what I was in the mood for; I read it in about two and half hours; then, I gave it away to the next person I saw wearing a sun hat and flip flops.I also bought it because I think Plum Sykes is a damned good magazine writer (see American Vogue). Blondes was her first stab at fiction, so let's give the girl a break. Something to appreciate in Bergdorf Blondes, even if you don't end up liking the main character, is the consistency of tone and voice. Nothing sounds fake (which is terrifying in its own way, however...), no word makes you go, "Oh cringe. She's trying to hard." The author is speaking from a true place and that comes through. So, you can hate Bergdorf Blondes (which would be a serious waste of energy) or you can like it for what it is (amusement), but I think we have to admit that Plum Sykes can write. I'd like to believe she could go somewhere with her fiction writing, eventually, if she wants to...

Gets better.
Okay after the first few pages of the book I had convinced myself that I wasn't going to like this novel which was a pity because I'd brought no other book on my week's holiday. But then as the week went on I read a bit more by the pool and by the end of the week I found myself loking forward to turning the pages. It really does get better. I'm a big reader of chick-lit and I love any book based in New York. I did find the main character's use of the word 'moi' irritating and found all the 'trips to Brazil' references very off-putting but I did enjoy reading about her friends and their vacuous lives and yes, I did get the 'satire'. This book isn't supposed to make you want to love the characters and identify with their silliness. You don't have to be a genuis to see that the author's tongue was firmly in her cheek as she wrote this. However if I'm being honest I probably would prefer Candace Bushnell or Sophie Kinsella. If I was given another Plum Sykes book as a present I'd read it but I'm not so sure I'd run out and buy it.

It's beyond!
