Does it need a stand to hold it?

It depends, I used to use mine on desktop with no issues with it moving about in DCS world MSFS2020 or star citizen. Since moving to a Sim rig (I race too) I had to make mounts for it. But if you're just on a desk then you'll be fine.

how long is the warranty in uk

normally 1yr But depending on where you buy it sometimes come with a 2yr warranty. I have had my HOTAS for 5 yrs now & still going strong all buttons work, all switches work, RGB works. I play Microsoft flight sim, Arma, Helicopter sim, Elite Dangerous. so if you look after you gear it will work for yrs. Logitech stuff i had before like the G27 steering wheel & pedal lasted me yrs has well & that driving sims for over 10yrs.
