Great book with a lot of reading practice
This is a great book. The grammar explanations are simple and clear. The 60 or so reading passages alone make this book worth buying. Latin readings include stories from the Republic, Hannibal, Caesar in Gaul, and the Roman Empire until its end. There are addition reading passages in the GCSE test practice sections at the end. Of course, you don't have to care about the British GCSE test to benefit from this book.

The perfect Latin course for the modern age!
This second book in Latin to GCSE is the perfect preparation for GCSE students. Most courses (Cambridge Latin course, Oxford Latin Course) are now woefully out of date, with far too much in them that is surplus to requirements. You might argue that education should not just be about passing exams, and I agree with you - up to a point. I am a teacher of mixed ability students, who has to fight for every hour of curriculum time given to Latin. I wish I had the luxury of time to teach extra things; and also students who do not panic every time there's a new vocab list to learn. Keeping the course book to exactly what the GCSE requires gives me a much better chance of preparing my students to do well in the exam, and that is what my parents and my head require of me. I will be using this book in September with my first year GCSE students (Y10), and we should have finished it by Easter. This leaves us time to focus on the literature (not covered by this book as the texts change every two years) and to hone their translation and comprehension skills. There are 5 practice GCSE-style papers in the book, all adapted from actual GCSE past papers; and I shall continue to use Latin Stories (by the same authors) to give further practice. Latin Stories: A GCSE Reader My only criticism is that some of the translation passages given in the book could have had comprehension questions added, as there is no comprehension practice in either book, apart from the 5 practice papers. Apart from that, this is the perfect Latin course for the modern age!

Useful book with good explanations
Am going to do Latin GCSE next year (by which time I shall be very very elderly,!) and the structured approach and consolidation exercises are perfect for someone learning without the benefit of having a teacher
