desertcart.com: Rookie Yearbook One: 9781595148261: Gevinson, Tavi: Books Review: A Handbook for the Angsty Teen Girl - For the year that it has been in existence, Rookie has pretty much been my bible. It's as close as you can get to having a bunch of really cool and experienced people give you advice in person. The print format takes the best articles from Rookie's September 2011 to May 2012 issues and compiles them together with a bunch of additional goodies. This is not your ordinary teen magazine, topics covered can reach from outer space to Saved by the Bell to advice on dating and sex. Articles concerning the 'perfect bikini body' or '10 steps to make him notice you' are nowhere to be found here, instead Rookie tackles these issues head-on and analyzes why teen girls stress about those subjects anyway. Each article can be read several time without getting boring, especially the more personal recollections. In addition to the fantastic writing, Rookie also has an impeccable eye for design. The Photography is always incredible and creative. Fashion and Makeup are covered in a fun way with confidence being the only requirement. The new layouts made especially for the book are also incredibly stylish without detracting from the text. Probably the best thing about having Rookie in physical format is that now I can carry it with me and secretly read it in class while pretending to do homework, just what I need to get me through high school. Review: My daughter reads and re-reads this - I got this for my 13 yr old. she is now a big fan of the book and the site. I really like that it gives her perspective on her experiences in a fun and informative way. It doesn't talk to her like she is completely an adult but it doesn't treat her like a child either. Some of the things written about may not be comfortable for everyone, unfortunately I think they are what most people experience in society at that age and slightly older. It helps to hear that it gets better from someone other than MOM!

A Handbook for the Angsty Teen Girl
For the year that it has been in existence, Rookie has pretty much been my bible. It's as close as you can get to having a bunch of really cool and experienced people give you advice in person. Perfect for older teenage girls.
I bought this for my 17 year old daughter and she has really enjoyed it. This is perfect for girls who know that they are more than just another pretty face. So much media geared towards teenage girls focuses on looks and how to attract a boy. This book is a compilation of blogs by the author and is fun but really focuses on the role women play in our society. It shows young women how to realize they can make a difference in the world.

Rookie Yearbook One
This book takes my breath away, I can't think of any accurate way to describe this book. I love this book and now think of Tavi as a close friend. Not everyone will like this book, it applies to the open minded, free thinking, coming of age feminist who might not be sure of who they are. This book has helped me tremendously and inspires me everyday. This is the best $25 I have ever spent, and can't wait for the second one. If you have any entrust in buying this book do it, and if you don't like what there is to say every page is very beautiful so you can just look at the pages.

Even if you are 56
If you are, like me, a 56 year old feminist, I just want you to know that you are NOT too old for this yearbook. It has great stuff--an interview with John Waters! David Sedaris! Wonderful pictures, lessons on how to bitchface, Lena Dunham, how to do mod eye make up, awesome stickers. Anna Faris has the best advice for surviving high school: Lay Low. Oh, and lots of very bright and insightful writing by some powerful young women, women like us. No, we aren't teen age girls anymore but we will forever be trying to untangle the knot that was adolescence. Still tear up when hearing Adele's Someone Like You when you're alone in the car? Still secretly drawn to glitter? Still try on those platforms at TJ Maxx when no one is looking? This book is for you. And a word to the publishers, activate the "look inside" function--I think if people could see the table of contents they would get really interested.

LOVE IT!!
I have been a fan of Tavi Gevinson's blog, Style Rookie, since the beginning! This book is filled with fun articles & tons of inspirational content! I recommend it to all of my friends! As far as the reviewer that wrote that it is inappropriate for a 13 year old, I disagree completely. This book tastefully & creatively covers topics that any teen can relate to. :)

Rookie
Avid reader of the online magazine since its launch. To anyone who's not already a fan: this is a fun, intellectual collection written by teenage feminists and respectable adults. Thumbing through, you may find anything from how-to: masturbate articles to how-to: bouffant your hair. It's a party. OH and there's a weird, flat, but working Dum Dum Girls single included. Oh god yes.

Rookie Yearbook One
I bought this book after seeing an interview with the author and Stephen Colbert. I intend to give it to my granddaughter as a gift. She will be 14 very soon, and I believe she will love this yearbook. I was very impressed with Tavi Gevinson on The Colbert Report. Often, adults can't handle him, but she stood her ground and presented herself very well. I am sure my granddaughter will enjoy the yearbook and find it useful.

Auf Englisch, wer es so lesen kann, sollte sich das Jahrbuch anschaffen. Es ist für Heranwachsende und junge Frauen bestens geeignet. Pro Feminismus.

I saw a picture of Rookie some years ago ii a book called "style yourself" , a small girl wearing a paper box as a hat, very original and fresh and I forgot all about her, until two weeks ago when out of the blue, this picture came to my head again. I have written "Rookie" on Google and the blog Rookie stylist appeared with an advertisement of the yearbook at the very begining. I ordered the first and second yearbook after browsing for ten seconds in each one of them on Amazon. I have received them two days ago. Superb. My fashion bible is something written during the 60s, the book " a guide to Elegance" by m. Dariaux, a strict and complete guide to fashion for all trends and all ages, but the Rookie yearbook is definately my second fashion bible from now on, for the simple reason that always we must leave a space for the anorthodox and the original in our outfits. How old am I? 51. I adore the dreamy photographs of clothes found on thrift stores and remodeled by DIY project that the Rookie yearbook contains. Half of them look like the fairies came out of the english woods and walk among us. There is something so tender and so liberating in all those outfits who look nothing at all like the restricting and money-eating pages of Glamour and Vogue magazines, that the whole idea touches my very soul. I would not mind wear those clothes myself, even if iwould look weird. I prefare to look weird this way than to wear Missoni knit- Ferragamo shoes- LV monogramm bag and 7 jeans. And then, there are of course the articles in the book, the intreviews as well but mostly the articles that even when they are very provocative (like the article on masturbation), they always aim to give a girl a higher self-esteem. I cannot overlook that.In a very sensitive way, the articles deal with many problems of the teenage life, not to mention that they are suitable even for 60-years old women who lost themselves under decades of male abuse by their father first and then their boyfriends and their husbands. Last, but not least, the layout of the book is of great artistic merit and a feast to the eyes. Many-many pages with beautiful drawings, with pictures of fabrics underneath the lettering, with small female gifts like the stickers, yes, this book is excellent, suitable for every woman, of any age. Conclusion? Tavi Gevinson, I salute you.
