Polk Assist Smart Speaker with Google Assistant Built-In - Midnight Black

I was very impressed with the sound from this speaker when I first set it up but, within a couple of days, I noticed it was becoming very laggy. I would, for example, ask it to play Radio 2, it would advise that it was going to play Radio 2 from the BBC, after which it would be silent for maybe half a minute and then would start to play. Then it started to report that it couldn't connect to my Wi-Fi which just became worse and worse. I would use the Google Home app to start the setup and would get the sound to advise that it was connected but then the voice message to say it couldn't connect to my Wi-Fi. It became so bad that I contacted Amazon customer service to advise that I now considered this to be a waste of money unfortunately. Amazon displayed their usual excellent customer service and immediately offered a complete refund upon return of the unit. I posted it off that afternoon and was advised same day that my refund had been set in motion. It's a pity, as I really liked the sound quality of the speaker but I'll look for something different now as, once bitten, twice shy.

The sound on this speaker is incredible !! I used my "go to" song to test it ( Woman in the Wall by The Beautiful South) the song has an amazing bass solo towards the end. The speaker dealt with it effortlessly.Once you go through the Google Home set up, you are good to go. The sound is crisp and clear at all volumes. The treble to bass ratio is spot on.HOWEVER: Be Aware that the speaker is NOT Portable. It has to be plugged in to the mains to work.I don't think this is stated or implied in any descriptions for the speaker. I found this out to my cost.For that reason alone I give this 5 star product a 4 star rating.

I don't profess to being to being an audio expert, but have been surprised by the sound quality from this unit. Without doubt it's the best speaker I've owned. Using the Bluetooth connectivity, I can now play sound from my TV through the speaker and it's an improvement.One issue I had was in getting the speaker connected to WiFi and I did need to reset it in order to get a successful connection. To do this you have to hold down the 'Mute Mics' button for 8 secs - you won't find this information in the supporting documents.

I have the white one which is fairly unobtrusive, and just a nice size. I wasn't sure about the sound quality at first, compared with CDs, but I'm new to the whole 'streaming' thing and I think I just needed to get used to it. I hadn't a clue what Google assistant was, and certainly didn't think I needed it, but OMG, it's so much fun! (If someone had said it's Google's version of Alexa, I would have understood, because everyone knows what Alexa is, right?) So that was an extra that I didn't expect. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because I can't get it to work as a Bluetooth speaker with my mini hifi, which is what I wanted a wireless speaker for. I have tried Polk customer service who did try to help but drew a blank. Anyway I'm keeping it because it's so entertaining!

First, the positive.. the sound from this speaker was fantastic. Everything you could ask from a speaker. BUT... even when in the same room as my 802.11ac router, it was laggy, and incapable of maintaining an internet radio stream for more than 5 minutes. So regretfully, I sent it back as not fit for purpose. So.. was it my router or the speaker? I have subsequently upgraded my router, and bought an LG WK7, which has very good sound (but not as good as the Polk Assist) but which also maintains a solid connection for all kinds of streaming. Given that the Polk didn't work reliably even when sat next to the old router, I suspect there is some sort of wifi weakness in the Polk. Which is a shame, since otherwise it is a fantastic bit of kit. So.. three stars, as an average of five stars for sound, and 1 star for connectivity.

I bought the Polk Audio Assist because of the fantastic which.com review, and I am very glad I did! The sound quality was my first priority and I find it excellent. Playing music directly from Spotify using the WiFi connection is so easy, especially as Spotify can be controlled via a phone or PC. Lastly, the in-built Google Assistant works faultlessly for us. It recognises all our commands, and is easy to trigger even when music is playing.I am looking forward to getting another one for a different room in the house!

This product looks and sounds fantastic BUT it struggles to remain connected to the wifi network. After live chat sessions with both Polk and my broadband provider - and having upgraded my broadband speed - I finally had to concede defeat and return this item to Amazon (who, luckily, don't argue about things like this).I have many other devices connected to wifi and have never experienced problems like this. I had hoped that I could resolve the connection problems because I think the product is great, but in the end it became totally unusable and so had to be returned.

Was surprised with the excellent sound quality from the Polk Assist speaker, much better than the google home what is designed to answer questions and not play music, the Polk does both very well, plays music from Hans Zimmer and Classic FM very well, when listening to the speaker you think it is a bigger speaker, full sound, very happy with it.
