ANNE is a coming-of-age story about an outsider who, against all odds and numerous challenges, fights for love and acceptance and for her place in the world. The series centers on a young orphaned girl in the late 1890’s, who, after an abusive childhood spent in orphanages and the homes of strangers, is mistakenly sent to live with an elderly spinster and her aging brother. Over time, 13-year-old Anne will transform their lives and eventually the small town in which they live with her unique spirit, fierce intellect and brilliant imagination. Based on the beloved books by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Review: Love this series - This is a great adaptation of Anne of Green Gables! It's a little more mature. Very well done! If you love the books, you'll probably enjoy this series! The DVDs came in good condition. Review: Sweet, clean, series!! - Main actress is adorable. Anne's like nervous and chatters on to adults in such a real, nervous teenager-like way. (Maybe she has a slight Aspergers syndrom- which would be helpful for viewers to see or understands how it works. Anne doesn't mean to be cocky, it just comes out that way.) She seems so lost, but very bright, and independent because she has had no real family to look after her. Characters, writing, casting, and acting are perfect!! Sweet clean series!!

A Good Old Fashioned Show! 🇨🇦
In my opinion this is the best version of Anne of Green Gables available. A Canadian production too! My nine year old granddaughter loved it too. Amybeth McNulty is most wonderful and believable in her role as Anne as well as the rest of the cast! I haven’t had the opportunity to see the second season but I’m looking forward to it! Awesome!

Beautiful new adaptation of "Anne of Green Gables"
The “Anne of Green Gables” books have been particular favorites of mine since childhood. I have re-read them countless times over the years, and absolutely adore the 80s movies with Megan Follows. When I heard that there would be a new tv adaptation of the books I was both excited and wary – especially when I heard that this new version would be “darker” and “different”. When Netflix added the show to their line-up last year I immediately decided to watch the pilot … and ended up devouring the whole (short) season within a week. Yes, this new Anne is darker and grittier, and yes – it is very different from those lovely movies from the 1980s. But. It’s also a beautifully written and acted show, and one that feels very real and realistic given the time period in which it is set. The story we see unfold on “Anne” does deviate from the book quite a bit, but that didn’t bother me half as much as I thought it would. I generally think it’s best to view books and their screen adaptations as two separate things because there are (almost) always changes. In the books, Lucy Maud Montgomery occasionally mentioned the hardships of Anne’s early life, the bullying she endured even after coming to Avonlea, and the negative reactions to the “wild redheaded orphan” even from many adults, but never really went into it deeper. Moira Walley-Beckett took that and expanded on it. On her show we actually get to *see* some of these things, and the effect they have on Anne. It’s believable to me that the experiences Anne had before coming to live at Green Gables had a lasting traumatic effect on her. It’s also quite heartbreaking to watch, and there were a number of times where I really wanted to give Anne a big hug. The acting is superb! Amybeth McNulty is a tremendously gifted young actress, and she is Anne through and through. She really brings to life Anne’s generosity, her beautiful spirit, her boundless imagination – and also the “depths of despair” that are also part of who she is. Geraldine James and R.H. Thomson are also wonderful as Marilla and Matthew, and Lucas Jade Zumann makes a charming and very likable Gilbert. But really – all the actors on the show are doing a good job at portraying their characters. Truth is, I would have loved a more lighthearted and fun new adaptation of the „Anne of Green Gables“ novels, no doubt about it. But I also fell in love with this darker, grittier, more realistic version. If you’re on the fence, give it a try. You might just end up falling in love with this new Anne just like I (and many others) did … :)

Bien reçu - bonne condition
Malheureusement le DVD n'est pas bilingue - ma femme aime cette série en Français - Netflix l'ont présentement en diffusion. Très bonne série, même si elle est seulement en anglais sur le DVD.

Love it!
I love it! Fantastic acting and gritty new script and story lines make this fresh and relevant while not losing the magic and nostalgia of the original book.

WELL DONE!
Well done and likeable characters . . . by this I mean they are as written in the books. The characters are all believable. I'm afraid this is how orphans were treated. This series is more for adults and not for children.
