Install Straightforward. Reused 3 Zone Module.
My 20 year-old Rainbird ESP controller started having some problems. I replaced it with the ESP ME3 controller. The install is straightforward. A screwdriver was the only tool I needed. It was interesting that the placement of the screw holes in the original Rainbird ESP matched exactly to the locations in this new controller, and this is appreciated.I decided not to use the WiFi module at this time. The interface looked different, but it seems to function and program very much like the original system. In my opinion, this unit is a very solid replacement for the older ESP control module. This unit is very compatible with the original install including mounting, connecting existing field wiring, and programming the water schedule.I pulled the 1-4 zone valve interface out of the old ESP module and put it on a shelf to have if needed later. I reused the original 3 zone module (5,6,&7) that was in the original install. I have room for 2 additional expansion modules.I tested all zones manually and entered the watering program. At this point I would buy this unit again.
