Tailgate Assist Shock Strut For 2007-2018 Silverado 1500 2500HD 3500HD GMC Sierra

Just a great product to be honest with you I have a pair of 9 year old twins that like to help me when I'm washing the truck or loading up groceries always they always want to open the tailgate but it's totally unsafe for them now with the tailgate assist I feel totally confident they could do it on their own without getting hurt I feel safer now letting them do it on their own, just a great product took me back 10-15 minutes to install it ,completely satisfied excellent product easy to install I recommend this product to anybody that owns a pickup just as a safety feature for your truck.

The special rivet install tool did not work. Had to use vise grips to set the rivet. Very frustrating. Got thru that and the rest of the install was simple. Unfortunately the product did not work well at all. The gate would free fall half way before the unit would begin to work. After only a few more tries it heated up and seized up. The gate would not open. I have bought many products from Amazon and this is the first bad review I have ever written. very disappointed. Update 9/13/18 After a communication mix up, the company is sending me a new part. I will install and update as soon as I receive it. 9/19/18. New unit arrived. Same box and components like the first one except this one came with instructions. Installed easily. Little bit of a freefall at the top but otherwise works well.

Not the clearest instructions but tons of YouTube videos to walk you through it. I am thinking about adding a second one to make it even slower. I mean one is fine there is no slam just nice controlled down.

keeps the don't give a crap employees from breaking stuff, like a tailgate. you still got to pick it up to close it but it doesn't make it feel heavier. pull the handle and step back, it slowly lets the gate down. dropping on every time it gets opened is not good for it.

The item that inserts into the tailgate did not work as described. When I was tightening the nut, to spread the inner mechanism inside the tailgate, the nut began to turn freely, only to find that the threads on the bolt was stripped, so I had to remove the bolt & nut that came in the package, and resort to a different bolt and nut to complete that part of the project.

Well for starters It was missing pieces.It was missing one of the most important pieces. Lockthreat. Not there also was the Mylar.So now it might unscrew andNot be lined up correctly.

1st lasted just over a year, we'll see about this one. Installed on 09 Silverado.

It was a gift for a friend because I liked mine so much. That, and when I opened his tailgate I'd forget it wasn't mine and I'd have to catch it after I let go; so it became a perfect gift idea. He loves it.
