WOW! 40 absolutely FAB designs you will want to knit. Superb value!
I don't think of myself as an Intermediate knitter, but like to challenge myself with new patterns. If I find a book with 1 or 2 patterns that inspire me, I consider myself lucky. This book has 40 patterns in it that are really good! For the first time, I am arguing with myself over which one to start first. There are less than 6 designs that don't make me want to get my needles and go through my stash. Best of all, these sweaters are doable and the instructions are easy to follow. I have an extensive pattern book library, and this is the best book in it!

Accurate Reflection
One of my favourite knitwear designers, this book is a wonderful reflection of Norah Gaughan's interest from her initial designs for 'Vogue' knitting magazine to the present day in cables, shape and interesting structures. There are designs for women and men's garments, and where the original yarns are no longer available, alternatives have been given. The creative impetus behind each garment gives a fascinating insight into the designer's intention, and reprinting the articles from 'Vogue' which accompanied some of the designs gives further information into this amazing designer's inspiration. The instructions are clear, as are the design charts (all designs are worked from charts), and the photographs' clarity show the design details precisely. Gaughan's designs have not dated, with the one which appeared in 1987 as stylish now as it was then. This is not a book for beginners, but unlike many knitting books which have perhaps one or two designs which "take the eye" there are many here to keep knitters who want stylish, eye-catching garments happy (as indeed I will be!) for many projects to come.

Gaughan Designs
You may like every single pattern in this book! Most patterns are beginner or intermediate. In my opinion, Nora Gaughan is one of the most innovative and accomplished knitwear designers in the biz.

Beautiful book, compilation of previously published patterns
I’ve been a long time fan of Norah’s designs and each one is more lovely than the last. This book is a timeline of designs that have appeared in Vogue Knitting magazines beginning with Summer 1987. Don’t be put off by the dates...these gorgeous patterns are very current and each one lists both the original yarn used (many of which are no longer available) as well as a suitable substitute yarn. For the most part, Norah’s designs are a tad complex but oh so worth the effort. Her cabled patterns are both eye pleasing and unusual.Having said all that, there are only 3 round 4 patterns in this book that I don’t already have in my Library. I was hoping for more new designs but I should have known from the title (and the photo on the cover) that this would be a compilation of previously published patterns.

Love it!
I love cables. I’m always drawn to her unique designs, and this book is a wonderful compilation of timeless sweaters. It includes some mosaic and fair isle designs, too. Most of the patterns are for women, but there are a couple of striking designs for men, too. The patterns are mostly for intermediate to advanced knitters, comfortable with knitting cables and reading a chart. Remember, though, you can Google most any technique and watch a uTube video to fill in skill gaps.
