Product Description On May 19th, Putumayo will present Italia, a collection of contemporary Italian music featuring some of Italy's best singer-songwriters. The CD includes a diverse array of styles that reflect Italian traditions, modern trends and the diverse, globalized sounds of Italy today. Italia features well-known singer-songwriters Giorgio Conte and Gianmaria Testa, who combine poetry and humor with stirring melodies and lovingly crafted compositions. Simone Lo Porto, Alessandro Pitoni, Alessandro Mannarino and Rossomalpelo frontman Serge Gaggiotti are all representatives of the contemporary Italian singer-songwriter scene. Lino Straulino returns to the traditional folk music of his native Friuli region in northeastern Italy for inspiration. The popular group Bandabardò draws its influences from European folk, rock and pop music. Film score composer Rocco De Rosa blends Italian folk music with diverse influences from the immigrant communities in today's Italy. Lu Colombo had two disco hits in the 1980s, but in recent years, she has joined forces with jazz guitarist Maurizio Geri to record timeless songs that would more likely be heard in cafés rather than on dance floors. Many contemporary Italian artists are making a conscious effort to pay tribute to the classic Italian popular music of the 1950s. During those years, American jazz was blended with Italian ballads and folk music to create carefree, romantic songs. Marco Calliari is a guitarist and singer of Italian heritage who was raised in Quebec and turned away from the heavy metal music he performed in his youth to focus on classic 1950s Italian songs such as "L'Americano". A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from the sale of the CD will be donated to EMERGENCY, an Italian organization that provides medical and surgical treatment to the civilian victims of war, landmines and poverty around the world. About the Artist Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world's cultures. The label grew out of Putumayo clothing company, founded by Dan Storper in 1975 and sold in 1997. Co-founder Michael Kraus joined Dan to launch Putumayo World Music and establish a non-traditional sales division. Putumayo World Music has become known primarily for its upbeat and melodic compilations of great international music characterized by the company's motto: "guaranteed to make you feel good!" Putumayo's CD covers feature the distinctive art of Nicola Heindl, whose colorful, folkloric style represents one of Putumayo's goals: to connect the traditional to the contemporary. By combining appealing music and visuals with creative retail marketing, Putumayo has developed a unique brand identity - a rarity in today's artist-based music industry.

Disappointing, very disappointing
I bought the Putumayo Paris CD which is fabulous. I fell in love with about four songs on that CD immediately. After listening to it in the car with my daughter daily for the past two weeks, we now both love all the songs. All of them. I had high hopes for this Putumayo Italian version. Unfortunately, it is a huge disappointment. The best song is Il Principiante by Bandabardo. The instrumental piece Iquique is ok, as are a few others. But just ok. A couple of the performers on this album can't sing. They are almost painful to listen to. I lived in Italy and speak fluent Italian so the issue isn't that these songs sound foreign to me. There's better Italian music out there, Putumayo just didn't put it on this album.

Can't stop playing this one!
I don't understand Italian yet this CD feels as if I can understand the thoughts or emotions of the vocalists. Certain songs have an indie-pop style that is so relaxing and easy to listen to. I could imagine sitting in a coffee house in Italy enjoying a latte. I've yet to be disappointed with Putomayo and this Italia CD is no exception. I play this for my Pilates class and they love it!

Great collection of Italian songs
This was my second Putumayo Presents CD purchase.Like the first, which is also Italian music, I've come to love all the tracks and enjoy listening to them over dinner. A large plate of pasta, a bottle of wine, my wife and this Italian music CD collection makes for a perfect evening at home.

Pleasant, Soothing Music in Italian
Love it. The style of the music is pleasant and relaxing, enjoyable for adults and kids alike. It's mostly acoustic-guitar based music with soothing singing voices. I like that the liner notes came in English and Italian, as my daughter and I are trying to learn the Italian language. This is a fun CD for us.Also, it was delivered promptly and in perfect condition.

I first heard this CD in a small town in England and felt in love with it. I love the music and the variety. Great for a day to just relax and listen to music. I was happy to be able to find it here.

i quite like Italian music but this CD is just too slow for my tasted. i suppose it can be good for relaxation

Schöne Sommermusik - leider nur wenig davon
Der Kaufanreiz für die CD kam durch ein Café, in dem sie als Hintergrundmusik lief. Angenehme Musik aus Italien für einen warmen Sommerabend. Die Auswahl ist gelungen und zeigt ein schönes Spektrum. Leider ist die Laufzeit nur recht kurz, mehr Füllmenge hätte der CD gut zu Gesicht gestanden.
