Pirate Songs for Concertina Review: Instruction with humor - Purchased in a bundle with an instruction book I was replacing. I was immediately impressed with the amount of information delivered in a tongue in cheek manner. I like the format of the songs, you get the melody, lyrics, A diagram of the keys you'll need to play tune, and tablature. The cherry on the sundae of this bok is the QR code that takes you to a YouTube of the tune being played very nice touch. Review: clear and simple - it's not a method but a collection of very beautifle song simple to read also for who are not able to read the pentagram. it's also simple transpose those songs on the concertina because there's a useful fingers positioning scheme.

Get this book!!!
I love all of Gary's books and own most of them, but this is one of my most favorite books ever! I've learned almost every song in it and play the songs on my concertina, button accordion, and piano accordion. I just love these tunes! They're easy to read, clear, and just plain fun!

Great value and a great book for beginners as well as seasoned concertina players.
147 tunes and the instructions for beginners is well-done and easy to follow.

Overall good. A few complaints.
I own several other books from Gary Coover and I love all of them. I was expecting something very similar to what is probably my most used book from him, Civil War Concertina. Unfortunately Pirate I do have a few complaints about Pirate Songs for Concertina. Overall it is a solid book. Using the same numbered buttons format from his other books it is relatively easy to pick up and start playing almost any song. It also has an excellent selection of songs including most of the songs you probably want in a book of pirate concertina songs and as well as quite a few new ones for me. However, for this book a piratey font was used and sometimes it can make it very difficult to read the text most importantly the numbers 1's and 7's look very similar in the dim light around the campfire due to the frankly annoying font choice. Now my biggest complaint. NO CHORDS! As someone who uses the concertina primarily to accompany myself while I sing I usually only toot out a few chords that sound good. Gary Coover's Civil War Concertina was excellent in this regard with simple chords if you just wanted to sing classic songs with a bit of accompaniment. I was very disappointed to find this book has none. The format is also a bit lacking compared to his other books. an overall smaller book with more songs means that the lyrics and music are crammed onto the same page or continue after a page turn which can be a bit inconvenient to flip back and forth especially for an instrument that requires you to literally strap your hands in. Overall a good quality concertina book with a great selection of pirate songs you probably want to be playing on your concertina, but the issues I have with it leave me disappointed especially after the quality of Gary Coover's other concertina books.

So excited for this book, came quickly and is full of a lot of un-intimidating fun sea shanties to play. Definitely recommend for any conertina- want to be players out there.. like me.... There isn't a lot of info out there about playing concertina but this is my 3rd book by this author and every single book Iv'e bought so far has very helpful info in it. I 'd Highly recommend this one as a first book to go with if you're just starting. :)

Einfach super! Die Verfasser von diesem Buch haben sich echt Mühe gegeben. Die Schrift macht Nostalgische. Bei jedem Lied ist alles toll beschrieben zum spielen und mit singen.

I'll be honest, I bought this book thiking "well, worst case scenario, I wasted 20€". I din't expect much. Instead, I found a book with a lot of songs! All of them with sheet music and numbers to be used as "tabs" for quick learning, which is brilliant. The only complaint I have is that some of the songs do not sound right. I suppose, since these are traditional songs, maybe the author had a different version in mind. Still, this book taught me Spanish ladies, Roll boys roll, Roll the old chariot in a matter of minutes. Brilliant. And all written in Pirate English.
