I just purchased a pair of 3.60 carat diamonds(1.80 carats each). I have a hole in my right ear that has gotten stretched a bit over the years. I need a backing that can stabilize a larger diamond in that ear and not allow it to flop. I am also highly allergic to most metals other than platinum. I got these based on reviews and the size of backing. After wearing them for a couple of weeks I love them and they are comfortable, hypoallergenic, and feel very secure. I am not sure why some folks have issues of breakage. Maybe taking them on and off a lot? I tend to leave my earrings in and only occasionally remove for cleaning. Maybe the mechanism that hold these in place eventually fall apart with lots of on and off? I find them perfect with the larger stones and how they hold them in my ears.

These worked extremely well for two years. Then a few days ago, I tried putting them on and one of the plastic disks broke in half. I tried to use it without the disk and the locking part didn't work at all. The other one, even though the plastic diskwas still intact, the lock didn't work on it, either. I don't know how they both stopped working at the same time, but that's what happened. I gave it four stars because they were perfect for two years, so figure that in if you decide to buy. They will cost you about $25 a year. If I only needed them for two years, I would have given them five stars.
