Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT Solar Charge Controller 75V, 10A, 12/24V

I am keeping this. I am cooling a greenhouse and I thought the unit would work to sense the daylight and then start the load. No unit like this seems to have a clock to set a timer. It does not know what is sunrise or sunset and for that matter I did not find another MPPT that does. These have what they call streetlight mode. It turns on the load and unit will learn the day from night by receiving the feed from the panels. This is the opposite for a cooling mode or maybe a greenhouse mode. I wish someone would add that to the options. Alas, a timer can do that and I know how to use a Baomain (available on Amazon) for this. You will need to get the Bluetooth and the app to set it up. Some other MPPT have displays. My use is pretty simple and this works with the LiFePo4 battery I have and the panels. No brainer for me but I did learn that a REAL MPPT is super this seems to have great algorithms. I have 3D printed some useful mounts and enclosure. It does not generate much if any heat. Overall you can't really do better than this.

Received controller yesterday and installed yesterday. It works as described, very nice. Bluetooth works very nice, the available customizable functions are enough for my needs. For the money and what you get, i will never buy another $20 etc. budget controller again. This one is the 75/10 and i did not know the 75/15 was only a few dollars more or i would have bought that one, why not. I use these as battery maintainers on my autos, big boy toys etc., I have been through allot of $20 budget controller that i have no customizable functions, no more of that. I will buy a few of these i think. If i had to give a negative it would be the Bluetooth range you have to be pretty much right next to it, at least that's what i am finding. I have other Bluetooth devices that i get much farther ranges on.

I needed to light a tree in less-than-ideal solar conditions using solar power only (charging a 12V battery). I first tried a 12V solar panel with a PWM controller, but it could not keep the battery charged. I found I needed a more sophisticated MPPT controller, so I purchased this Victron Energy SmartSolar MPPT 75V, 10 amp Solar Charge Controller to replace the PWM controller. It worked with the 12V panel OK, but still not good enough to keep the battery voltage in the "safe" voltage drain zone in the poor and varying sun conditions I had (Winter weather, often in low-angle tree shadow). The SmartSolar MPPT controller documentation recommended a 24V solar panel for a 12V battery. I changed to a 24V panel, and it worked great! Using daily measurements from the MPPT controller (via the Bluetooth VictronConnect app), I found that the 24V panel's voltage kept the PV input voltage often at over 20V even on a cloudy day and/or in the shade of trees. The SmartSolar controller converted the extra voltage to the charging power I needed. Keeps my battery charged at above-minimum voltages even on snowy days! Just what I was hoping for! This is my sixth Victron charge controller and I it gave me fits trying to get it going. All the others came with a default pin of 000000 but not this one! I finally discovered a pin on the back of the unit and that solved my problem. If this was explained somewhere in the instructions I missed it. When you’ve already installed five with no problems this is a disappointment. Other than that I love Victron charge controllers.

I am going to mount this Victron 75/10 Solar Charge Controller on the firewall of my boat. I have a 50 watt solar panel I will be using to keep my battery topped off while in storage. The app was easy to download and after 2 minutes it was done updating itself. The charge controller only took a few minutes to install. In my testing of this solar charge controller over the last two weeks, it has worked better then expected. I am very happy with it and will only be buying Victron in the future. I am using the "streetlight" function and the "load" connection to run a 10 watt led light bulb while the boat is in storage. I keep the boat on the side of my house and there is no light there. Now, using the boat's battery, the light comes on at night and goes off at sunrise. It only drains the battery a little during the night. Then, the next day, the solar panel charges the battery up to full and maintains it in float mode perfectly. By the way, I'm using the QILIPSU Hinged Cover Junction Box, - 150 x 150 x 90mm/5.9" x 5.9" x 3.5"(L*W*H) size box. The box seems like it was custom built to fit my Victron 75/10 Solar Charge Controller. It is watertight, made of thick plastic and has stainless steel clasps. Price was very good for the quality.

Solar is a great thing. Got sun? Free energy! But there is a learning curve to maximize your investment. Victron is one of the shining brands of solar energy, but top-brands don't always mean top-dollar. I was very happy to find this low-cost charge controller to upgrade my DIY power station to MPPT. Quick lesson: MPPT stands for Maximum Power Point Tracking. That's a neat bit of technology that squeezes out as much energy as possible from your solar panels. Must less expensive charge controllers (even if they SAY they're MPPT) are PWM, or Pulse Wave Modulation. Those devices work, but they do not have the extra efficiency to boost solar charging. In fact, MPPT devices like this Victron get you up to 25% more energy over a PWM charger. Back to the topic: This is indeed an MPPT solar charger, rated at 75 volts maximum, 10 amps maximum. You need to know what your solar panel(s) produce to know whether you can use this charger. It lacks a display, though small LED lights report basic charging functions: Float, Absorption, Bulk. And an intermittent flashing blue light lets you know Bluetooth is connected. Speaking of Bluetooth, yes, it's built-in to the device, you don't need a separate dongle. Download the Victron App, use the passkey included with the paperwork, and you have full access to the charger. You can't run many panels with this, probably no more than two, 100 watt panels in series would be best, though you could add three in series and still be within the 75/10 specifications. Check your panels to be sure. It's a great size for a DIY powerstation. A current pricing you could Frankenstein your own 500 watt pure sine-wave for less than $300. It includes a 20 amp standard blade fuse. I'd recommend have a few more on hand. Don't go lower than 15 amp. 20 amp is the device's sweet-spot. It does feature load ports, but no USB. While it's well built and great value, I do have two minor complaints... The wire outlets are really small. I had to double-crimp my ferrules to get them in. And as is the case with several small charge controllers, the openings to tighten the connections are small. I'm surprised these are flat-head screws, too. So if you don't have a small flat-head screwdriver, you'll need one before you can do anything with this. To be honest, Victron has higher voltage/amperage models for just a few dollars more. But if your needs are small and you don't see upgrading later, this will take care of you.

I replaced a budget controller that stopped working after a couple of years. Installation is a little complicated. The manual included required a magnifying glass to read and seemed to be written for someone that already knows what they are doing. It didn't mention one of the most important things, the PIN to program the device with a smart phone. The manual says it's somewhere on the unit. It helps to watch a few Youtube installation videos. At least one gave me the PIN. 000000. Once I figured that out it was still a little difficult to navigate the settings in the app. It's now working like it's supposed to. It quickly topped off two batteries.

A friend gave me this controller after enlarging his system, including replacing this controller with a larger one. The good news is that upon getting it hooked up, the controller has performed well. The bad news is that i have never experienced as challenging of a wire connection process as the one this controller uses. A set screw process with raw stripped wires is not uncommon (altho one of my least favorite even when done in a user friendly design) , but this one is frustrating. The included slot screw heads require a screwdriver size just slightly larger than that used for eye glasses, but smaller than any of the more common sizes. Had to buy one at the hardware store. Years ago I used a different brand controller which also used a set screw design, but that one used more common screw heads--makes a big difference. Also, with this controller's connections it is tough to know just when the wires are snug enough to be held in place. Truth be told, these connections are a big enuff PITA that I will look for one with a better wire connection design if I ever buy another controller.

Musste meinen altennSolarrwgler ersetzen, weil dieser nicht korrekt mit meinem Batteriespeicher zurecht kam. Wie von Victron gewohnt. Funktioniert einwandfrei mit meiner LiFePo Batterie. Per Bluetooth auslesbar. Empfehlenswert.

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 75/10 is an outstanding charge controller. I installed it in my off-grid shed solar system, and it has been running flawlessly from day one. The built-in Bluetooth is a huge advantage. The VictronConnect app lets you monitor charging performance, battery voltage, and system history right from your phone without opening the enclosure. The MPPT tracking is very efficient, even under changing sunlight conditions, and it keeps my battery properly charged year-round. As with other Victron products, the build quality is exceptional, and the software is polished and reliable. If you're building a small solar-powered shed, cabin, or other off-grid project, this controller is worth every penny. It's one of those products that you install once, and then simply forget because it just works.
