is the 500X worth the extra fifty bucks for normal household use

500X gives you the possibility to create/resharpen split point drill bits. The advantage of a split point drill bit is that it doesn't slip on hard and flat surfaces, the normal bit in the same condition requires a drive hole or at least a punched center-point. Now is up to you if 50 bucks are worth . . .

can it sharpen left hand drill bits?

No, this model 350X is not capable of sharpening left-handed (reverse) drill bits. However, it is my understanding that both the 500X and 750X models do have an accessory chuck, purchased separately, that will sharpen left-handed (reverse) drill bits. Hope this helps...

Will it repair a bit with a broken tip? thanks

Yes, first use a regular bench grinder to create the basic shape of the cutting edge of the drill bit. Then use Drill Dr to fine tune and sharpen your bit. This works well. If you try to shape the broken bit with Drill Dr alone, you're just wearing out the sharpening wheel prematurely.

Is it adjustable to cut for a 135°drill bit? Like a drill hog bit.

This machine can only sharpen 118 degrees. To sharpen 135 degrees you will need a machine with more features such as the 500X and 750X. You can find these models on Amazon.
