Perfect for backpack
Every bad review on this product is about it coming with no tackle... Pick you own! Or the reel portion not being secure... Wind the line the correct way depending on whether your left or right handed! Or it being overpriced... Its a brilliant bit of kit, great design and made with bomber materials.

Excellent Survival Fishing Kit
This is basically a plastic version of the 'Hobo Fishing Kit' which would generally be made from wood. The big problem with wooden fishing kits is that the wood isn't always stable (fully seasoned) or treated against decay and they tend to have a cork to 'plug' the narrow hole in the handle - cork can be easily damaged or lost. However this plastic version has a secure top and as it is made from plastic it will be around for quite a while..... I can easily cast an average sized earthworm on a size 10 hook over 10 metres (approx. 33 feet) using 6lb line and that's with no added weights on the line. That definitely gives me enough distance to get into the middle of a decent sized river or stand far enough away from fish to prevent scaring them. Using an unweighted worm on the hook ensures a natural drift and fish will hit it much more confidently than if it was weighted. Inside the hollow handle the cavity is large enough to enable me to store a selection of floats, hooks, weights, swivels, spinners and a line cutter so the kit is now quite comprehensive (see pictures). It fits perfectly into the Maxpedition cocoon pouch with room to spare for small containers which I can use for bait. The pouch keeps it safe and can be secured to a molle compatible bag no problem. I would definitely recommend this over a wooden version as there is so much more usable space with a hollow plastic handle. If you didn't want to go with floats it would easily hold matches, small blade or other items commonly found in a survival tin. As far as the use of this in the UK goes I believe that it is not legal to use anything to catch fish which is not considered to be a 'rod' on fresh water bodies of water so it is really one for the 'stealth fishermen' (poachers) or preppers who want something small and very effective to harvest food. I have a video uploaded to my 'Thousand Yard Stare' YouTube channel called 'Ka-Bar Backpack Kaster (Hobo / Bushcraft Fishing)' which goes into great detail so search for anything like that on YouTube and it will come up. Unfortunately the video is too long to upload to Amazon. If you have basic fishing knowledge you will catch fish with this.....bring on the Apocalypse. EDIT: I have now uploaded a new video with thoughts on 10 compact fishing kits on my Thousand Yard Stare YouTube channel. The video called 'Bushcraft, Bug Out Bag and Survival Fishing Kits Review - Bushcraft Fishing Kits' and is over an hour long. It goes into great detail on all of them with a rating system and final scores. If you're serious about bushcraft fishing it will be a good watch.

Fun little fishing implement, Kabar quality!
Bought this as something I can keep in my EDC bag that is at least always in my vehicle when I’m out and about. When it arrived (quickly) it was easy to see that the build quality is great. It is a bit smaller feeling/looking in my giant hands than it appeared in the review videos I watched of it on YouTube, but is very comfortable and provides a solid grip. I took these pics before throwing it into my bag, and finally got a chance to toss it into a fishing pond by the park we occasionally take our kids to when visiting my mother. Pulled out an appx. 4 pound pike and an average 12 inch Goldeye. Having done lots of hand line fishing over the years, this was no problem to use for “reeling,” and only takes a few tosses to figure out how to beat cast it. I’ve got about 95 yards of 10 LB monofilament line on it. The inside accommodates; 8 swivels, 8 hooks, 2 jig heads, 2 small spinners, a pair of 4” worm baits, 6-1.5” neon soft baits, 2 6” leaders, 8 split shot weights, and two small bobbers. Would definitely recommend for someone who wants something on hand for them to take more opportunities without having to worry about having rods and tackle on hand all the time. Will function as well as your experience/skill allows you to function and utilize it.

Sehr interessant!
